1.6 vs 2.0 litre petrol?

Featured Replies

Right, I've basically seen two cars in price range and of similar condition except that one is a year older and is a 2.0l Ambiente, whereas the other is a year newer and a 1.6l Ambiente.

Which is the 'better' engine? I've seen the stats so I mean in terms of popularity and reliability really I guess!

Cheers

Test drove a 2.0 then bought a 1.6 on salesamns recommendation, couldnt really notice any difference. It seems that 2.0 engined models are harder to move on later. To be honest Iwas more than happy with the 1.6 until I tried a vRS was bitten!!

Well the 2.0 will have more power but thats about it, it'll use more petrol and be higher on tax.

Also as Stu said above the 2.0 will be harder to sell when it comes to it.

The 1.6 should be adequate, its an ok engine too. And will be slightly easier to sell.

However personally If I could go for any Octy, it'd be a diesel.

This seems to agree with my inerpretation of the two engines. On paper, you don't seem to lose much performance by opting for the 1.6 whereas you do gain best part of 10mpg and a bit on tax.

The diesels are out of my price range and often come with higher mileage. I don't do enough miles to warrant paying such a premium in the first place.

Cheers!
