Is My Felicia a failsafe engine??

Featured Replies

hi,

during an emotinal journey to Heathrow about 10 days ago, my cam belt gave way and i glided to a standstill on the M26.

£130 later, I have been told that it may be a failsafe engine and therefore the damage may be minimal and the poor thing may be brought back to life.

my car is a T reg - the first of the polo engines 1600 engine size.

can anyone advise me please - I can't bear the thought of having to scrap my little car - it's done 92'000 and was showing no signs of retirement.

Please let me know your thoughts,

Debs

Hi and welcome

Repost your question in the Felicia section, increases the chances to get a swift reply.

Sorry to say I cannot give a definite answer. I don't think that major damages are inevitable but something might have happened to the valves.

However, in that case it shouldn't be impossible to find a complete head or even a complete engine in good shape at a scrappie, so if the car otherwise is in good condition you should try to save it!

and what about answering the poor chaps question

ive never heard of a fail safe engine myself. i thought sadly when a cam belt goes its generally bad news for at the very least the valves, and maybe the pistons?

i had one go on me in a pug while i was at idle, and that still did over 300 quids damage :thumbdwn:

but as has been said above, you should be able to get a replacement engine if needs be. good time to rool up those sleves and get stuck in :)

It all depends if the engine is an interference design or not. I'm guessing it is (and it is purely a guess) as most of the VW ones are. The MX-5 has a non-interference design....

More info - interference [email protected]
