Just reaching the first 10k service!

Featured Replies

Hi All, not been on here for a while hope everyone is well...

Just reached the 10k mark on the fabia...taking it in next tues with a quote of £145 for servicing..does that sound about right?

Few niggles with the car;

- bit of a grinding noise on the rear brakes when the car nears stationary

- when parking and i need to shift from 1st to reverse gear, it usually doesnt allow, I have to lift the clutch up slightly before it can shift... (anyone had this prob?)

- the steering wheel at neutral rotation sits slightly anticlockwise and it takes the car dramatically left when ur driving and letting go of the wheel.

other than that I think it should be ok

Hi welcome back to briskoda mate.

I always thougnt the grinding on the brakes was a "common problem" as I had raised this before, I've only had my car 6 months so can't quote on a service price for you mate.

Few niggles with the car;

- bit of a grinding noise on the rear brakes when the car nears stationary - Normal, they all do it and there is nothing wrong

- when parking and i need to shift from 1st to reverse gear, it usually doesnt allow, I have to lift the clutch up slightly before it can shift... (anyone had this prob?) - I'd get that looked at, TBH the box has been sweet in all I have driven

- the steering wheel at neutral rotation sits slightly anticlockwise and it takes the car dramatically left when ur driving and letting go of the wheel. - Another common charecteristic. Mine was awful and if you take it back to the dealer they will tell you that it's your fault etc.... Swap the wheels round and get a 4WA done, it won't go away but it will be better.

other than that I think it should be ok

See above. Dealer will charge you about £170 for a 10k service and inspection.

or around £85 without the inspection, if you've racked up the miles after a short space of time, and can put off the inspection till 20k

Right, just had the service done today at AL Skoda in Liverpool, the service was cool, nice friendly people over there and efficient service as well as a full valet on the car before they handed it back, they checked out all the points as mentioned above and fixed as much as they could. Car is going to have to go back for the gear box problem as they require more time to look at it.

The only thing they couldn't fix was the alignment of the steering as it is tapering badly to the left, they said it was not covered in the manufacturers warranty to get it 'geometrically aligned' (whatever that is) and that I would have to pay around 40 -70 quid to get it taken away somewhere to get it lasered diagnosed... Does anyone know what this is??

just bumping up this post to see if anyone knows what a geometry alignment process is? (read above)

cheers

Search either here or on google for wheel alignment, must be millions of pages on it.

But basically they'll adjust the toe and camber of the wheels. One of wheels may of been knocked out, by hitting a kerb, pothole, speed humps etc. Nothing really to worry about. Get it checked and adjusted. :thumbup:

Edit: just realised Decron suggested you do this anyway :)

with the gearbox problem you are having. i also had the same problem with 1st and reverse and mine ended up being the clutch being slightly on and sticking, they changed the clutch and rebled and all was ok.

full valet on the car before they handed it back

:rofl: I wouldn't call putting the car through their automatic car wash and putting the hoover round a full valet.

I had mine cleaned when mine was serviced. Fully appreciated, but the seats were soaking wet which made the windows steam up coz it was raining and gave me a wet ****!

Good price though! :thumbup:
