2005/05 Octavia washer problem

Featured Replies

Dealer can't find fault with washer blowing it's fuse!

Have now changed fuse many times, including fitting next size up. It works, i.e. cleans the windscreen, a few times and then the fuse goes again.

Shortly out of warranty, so would like to advise dealer how to fix if anyone here knows the solution!!

Hello and Welcome to Briskoda

First off, don't fit any bigger fuses or you could have a fire on your hands.

Personally I don't know the solution but do you have headlight washers? My first port of call would be the pump as that's what obviously does the work. It might be an idea to test the motor insulation condition and check for ground faults causing it to draw excess current. The electrical connections and/or relays might be worth checking too.

If the mechanical part of the pump is worn/damaged it might also cause an excess current draw.

Are your washer nozzles working properly as in not showing signs of blockage?

Do you use the proper lemon fan nozzle washer fluid?

Keep badgering the dealer until they sort the problem. Make sure they have logged the warranty issue so when it expires they will still be obligated to resolve it.

Thanks for the reply.

Dealer gave me the bigger fuses (20 instead of 15 amp)! I'm taking it back on Monday for first MOT, and hope I won't be fitting any more fuses.

I do have headlight washers. Is there a separate pump?

All washers work properly until new fuse blows.

However, I use "any old screen washer fluid" and don't recognise "lemon fan nozzle washer fluid" - what is it?

Presumably the dealer can and should check the things you suggested. They claimed to have looked at everything when I first reported it in Nov 06.

I will check the warranty issue is logged on Monday.

20amp fuses!!!

I thought the things usually came with 5 and then 10 as the 5's blew too much.

20 amps at 12 Volts = 240W, which seems a lot for a dinky motor pumping some water.

It's me again. Managed to get dealer to replace complete washer motor/pump under warranty - just one day before end of warranty!!

However, after a few days the problem was back - fuses blowing!

Any new ideas anyone?

You've put up with that for nearly 3 years?!!!!

Is it throwing any codes besides blowing the fuse?

Yes, 3 years, although it didn't start right away. The dealer investigated several times with NFF before I persuaded them to replace it. No mention of codes!

It's me again - still blowing washer pump fuses after all those years and a new pump which was no improvement!!

Has anyone had any experience of the same problem in the meantime?

Since the Skoda franchise failed several times, I'm about to try the auto-electrician from my friendly local garage.

It would be good to give him a heads-up if anyone here has ideas.
