starting probs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm asking on behalf of an elderly friend who hasn't even got a clue what the internet is let alone a forum :)

He has an S reg Felicia which sometimes when he turns the key gets absolutely nothing. Not even a starter trying to turn. Then he can walk away for 30 mins and comeback for it to turn over fine  there's no real pattern to it like if the car has been left or recently run... just happens intermittently.

Would anybody have a clue what might be wrong or where to start looking?

many thanks.

Could be the ignition key barrel, it has come up in the past on here a few times so seems to be a relatvely common fault. Do the lights (brake fluid warning etc) come up when the key is turned to the start position?

*If* this is the problem, solutions include new ignition switch - or adding a starter button to bodge it so you can put your key in and to the on position then push the button to start.

wow thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure about the lights coming up. I'm seeing him tomorrow so will ask and get a few more details.

thanks

Sounds plausible. The other possibility is the "fusable link" (not a fuse, so don't look in the fusebox), being part-failed.
