You know how the story goes ;)

One black fabia plus one kitchen/garage hybrid plus one 23 year old male with a obsession with taking things apart........ Equals alot of swearing, hammering and some very good photography to look at

Wish me luck.

Step one, Get car in nice warm garage and admire previously fitted Allard pipe.

I am thinking more like stupid than brave. ;)

Although it was easier than I orginally thought.

Car runs so much better, MPG this morning was 48 on the way to uni, usually struggle to get 45 :D

Congrats! Glad it's all back together and working again!

I'd be loving it if you could put together a guide - even if it's just 3 words per picture of what you did. I've carried out a cambelt replacement on my previous car and I'm planning on doing this next month as it's my VRS's 4th birthday; I've got the Haynes manual, but the pictures in it are pretty useless.

Also, what lock-ey tools did you use and where did you source them from? If you've no further need for them I'd be very willing to buy or lease! ;)

BRRRMMMM BRRRMMM pop pop BANG!!!! oh bugger:rofl:

First time I changed a timing belt I was in a rush as it was getting dark, and was so sure that I'd got the timing right that I 'just cranked it' instead of turning it a couple of times by hand. Guess who got the timing 180 degrees out!?

Imagine what it would sound like if you poured a bag of nails into a washing machine and turned it on full!

Two sheared exhaust valves, one sheared intake valve and (eventually) a new cylinder head later and I learnt my lesson!

Sounds great! Thanks a lot! As I say I'm not planning on tackling it until about this time next month, but I'll look you up and send you a cheque/paypal for the cost of postage and 'administration costs' (ie. a few pints in the local ;))

Good job. I would only undertake this kind of work under supervision of my mate at his garage, and by that point I may as well let them do it. Mine's not due for a while but looking to just change the belt when my new head goes on.

You are amazing mate - sincere and total respect right at you.....

Those pics really teach you how it's done - looking forward to your guide - and it should be made a sticky from now I feel.

Cheers

Cheers Bas,

The belt change was alot easier than the gearbox/clutch so it should be childs play for a man of your talent ;) Injectors look scary, I will be attempting these in the not too distant future and i aint looking forward to them one bit :(

Let us know if you need these locking tools, its shame them just laying around now gathering dust.

Now offically the Briskoda asz engine timing tools  Lets see how many times we can get use out of them

No worries, let us know when you need them

Gotta disagree with that statement,

Stupidity would have been undertaking the job without the confidence in your ability to see it through.

Time for tea and medals:D:thumbup:

Did you do the water pump at the same time? I think you did, but not sure if that's what I'm seeing in pic #2640?

Did you have to remove the wheel arch liner?

Top job, fancy doing mine? ;)

Top job fella:thumbup: I changed the belt on a Sierra many years ago, it was all done outside in the rain:mad:

It's a great feeling when it all goes back together and works. Plus you have the satisfaction of knowing you saved some cash as well:D even if you did get grease/oil on the tiles:rofl:

All credit to ya.

Yer wheel arch liner has to come off to access the crankshaft pulley.

Water pump was £23 on trade from andrew pages. Its a metal impeller one

Would have a go, but i am really really busy atm. And I still havent finished all the other jobs ive promised to other people yet.

By the way if anyon whos reading this and ive promised a job to you please do remind me via pm as i have a memory like a fish :o

I also have a set of timing tools, however the handle came off the locking pin, and one of the pins came off of the tensionning tool

Top work as ever my friend
