Bike rack's for Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Did a quick search and found some details on an Octavia bike rack but am looking for a bike rack for a Fabia vRS. Only need's to be able to carry one but any more is a bonus, just wondered if there are any used/approved by members here as i don't want to rip my spoiler off!

Any help appreciated.

I have a pair of roof mounted Thule 591 bike carriers.

I would only be happy with a roof mounted carrier as I wouldn't want to put any stress on the roof spoiler or fit a tow bar.

Remember you will need roof bars as well - £100 from a dealer.

Thule Every Time

I used this for the roof rack & then also bought a couple of 591 ProRides also by thule hold the bikes really well & you can securely lock them which is a bonus.

Its about £120 for the actual roof rack & then the cycle carriers are about £60 each RRP is 95 i think but roofracks.co.uk has a deal on them.

Used to have a skoda rack but only comes in black & i think the thule grey / silver is much better looking

Tried a high-level boot mounted rack to avoid any problems with the spoiler. Once. One broken rear wiper and scratched boot lid later, I invested in a dustsheet and put the cars in the back...

A roofrack is probably the only option I'd consider if I ever needed to carry the bikes and couldn't fit them in the car.

Just spent the weekend jiking some bikes around with my mate's Saris Sentinal 2 (Saris Cycling Group) It hooked on fine behind the spoiler and didn't scratch the paint.

Seemed to wobble quite a lot on the motorway with two bikes on but it didn't actually move or come loose atall. With one bike you hardly noticed it.

I also accidentally switched on the rear wiper which must have been on for a good half hour but it still works so there must be some kind of clutch or thermal cutout which protected it which is good to know if you're using that type of rack.

It's pretty awful for the fuel economy, mind.

I'm also interested in getting the Thule roof rack system with a 591 cycle carrier.

Does anyone know if the Thule system damage the paint at all? I have heard that the mounts can scratch the roof or top of the doors?

Alex

The feet system on the dealer supplied Thule roof bars fit into slots on the rain channels. They don't come in contact with the roof panel at all.

I used mine about 4 or 5 times without any damage.

All/Most dealer stuff is Thule...

We stock the basic and the alloy bike carriers, and having fitted both to cars for display, there both great.

I used to work in a place that did roof bars and bike carriers.

Check out The Roof Box Company: sales and hire of Thule roof boxes and other brands of roof boxes, roof bars and bike carriers It'll give you a good idea of what's on offer.

Just becasue Thule is well know everyone assumes its the one to go for. Atera also does some nice lightweight bars too though (signo). Fapa bars are really a budget option for one off use.

The site will take you through which mounting system is best for you too. If you just need one bike I'd recomend a roof mounted system.

Any questions, just ask.

Sounds like your the man to answer this chappies questions then!

what'd ya need to know? (in an italian accent)

I'm selling official bars plus thule carriers in the for sale section.

the genuine roof bars are a good fit and can be locked on i bought myn of jon TDI, here they are fitted (note the strap is because the bottom bar if oversize so the clamp does not fit correctly. but it works well well on my other bike)

We have a back window typ for the octavia (£35 Motor World) which specifically says that you can't fit it to cars with a rear window spoiler, so I suppose the roof is the only way to go, really!

I would recommend getting yourself a proper bike carrier Martyy. The Thule 591 has an adjustable clamp for the down tube.

I wouldn't be happy with just those straps, well not the way I drive anyway! :D

I still have mine, but want to keep them for the Leon. I think they are around £60 each.

Another vote for the Thule 591 carriers. I have them and the Thule rack etc for my vRS. If my car ever sells, the rack will likely follow in the For Sale Section..

Cheers

Stu

dont plan to have that bike much longer so it shouldnt be a problem then, so if anyone wants it let me know as it is for sale. will have a look at the thule carriers tho, cheers!
