H&R Coilovers?

Featured Replies

Anyone had experience with these?

There are some on NZ Trademe at the moment for $600 - about 250 quid, which seems very cheap indeed!!

I am certainly tempted!

H&R SKODA OCTAVIA RS COILOVER SUSPENSION. for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

Not that I have any cash to spend. As the car's coming up to four years old, am I likely to need new shocks soon? (Trying to justify to myself and SWMBO!)

Also what else would I need - presumably it would be a good plan to change the suspension bushes at the same time?

Any advice please?

Hmm - according to this link:

H&R Suspension - Search by Car - Part Listing Page

Notes:

13 Spacers are required when the standard wheel/tyre combination is used.

26 For vehicles with a drive shaft diameter >42mm, there is only a 35mm lowering. For further lowering, the stabiliser bar must be changed for a H and R item (Part No. 900.525.01). We recommend this for every vehicle.

Not so keen on that idea!

It's a common thing on the chassis, you need to lower the ARB to clear the chassis legs

I would go for it as for what you can get them for.

I think note 26 shouldn't be to much of a problem due to the vrs having a different arb link than the short type connecting to the wishbone.

I'm put off by the spacer thing.

Also I've just found out that in NZ if I fit adjustables I have to get the car re-certified as a modified vehicle (at a cost) to enable it to pass a WOF (MOT)

I don't need that sort of hassle!!

Shame that Rob - seems daft you have to go through that soft of bureaucratic hassle for the sake of a change in suspension setup!

Nice idea though :)

I think in theory I have to get it re-certified because of the remap as it's over a certain percentage extra power.

Plus my tints are definitely illegal but it has passed three WOFs with them fitted.

I would chance it then, at that price you can always buy the tester a beer ;)

I have H&R on my car and can vouch for them. They are awesome. No problems here. Just highlights the fact i now need better tyres, Doh!

I've had some on now for what must be coming up to five years this summer. Excellent on uber-smooth tarmac and circuits, but to be honest they are too harsh on every day roads and make driving at speed not particularly relaxing (I must be getting old or something to say this!).

Ha Ha, i know what you mean tho. Its always going to be a trade off between track holding ability and ride comfort.

The back seats im told are more unconfortable than the front im told tho by my passengers :)

Kind Regards

Garry

I have the comfort line H&R coilovers and find them very good. Other things to look at changing at the same time would be the top mounts.

Also I think the spacer thing only applies to non-vrs models, same goes for the arb.
