Custom Remaps

Featured Replies

Here's the deal - 2004 Octavia Elegance 1.8T auto seeks remap. But I'm concerned about the big increase in torque these tend to give low down, as the auto box is a complex and expensive bit of kit I don't want to break.

Hence, what I really want is a map that will simply flatten out my torque curve all the way to the red line, preferably via OBD programming, maybe with small increase across the board.

Any ideas if anyone can do this for sensible money, and what kind of power i'd be looking at??

My line of thought is basically that with the auto the low-down torque isn't really important anyway, as it simply drops down when you're blasting past something.

Perhaps another option would to be to get the RS program loaded on to it??

Cheers

JJ, send a PM to KLB, he has the same engine/gearbox combo as you and had it remapped by Jabba about 6-9 months ago. I gather he is happy. Same cost as any other Jabba remap :D

No need for a PM :)

Yes, I had the car remapped by JabbaSport last September (168.4 kW/228.8 HP - the dyno couldn't calculate torque properly because the transmission kept shifting). Mike mapped it for a flat torque curve. Since then it's done around 9000 miles and nothing has broken (touch wood). It's not quite as smooth as it was before remapping - the transmission will sometimes shift down before it needs to, then there's a "surge" of acceleration before everything settles down again. It's only noticeable when cruise control is engaged, though.

There shouldn't be a problem with the box handling the extra power - Mike mentioned that some of the auto Golfs he had remapped were raced regularly without any reliability issues.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I find the cc is a bit thick anyway in that respect, especially when you hit resume. It always shifts down, even to accelerate only 5mph. Maybe it 'blips' the throttle and hence puts the box into sport mode??

Out of interest, how much quicker does the car feel? Any guestimated figures? Sorry for all the questions, but also did fuel economy suffer, I find it quite thirsty anyway at 30mpg.
