Hi,

I've just bought a Felicia (1997) extremely low mileage and excellent condition.

Unfortunatley on the first day of using it the central locking completely failed (worked in the morning, didn't work in the evening and hasn't since).

I can open both front doors with the key no problem, but the central locking is non-existent from either front door. I've checked the fuse (OK) and bought a haynes manual to check the wiring diagram.

I have a few of questions I'd appreciate some advise on please.

1. Where is the Central Locking Control unit located!!!

2. Is there a relay in the circuit because the Haynes manual doesn't indicate there is one but one of the diagnostic suggestions in the manual for failed Central Locking is "failed relay"!!

3. If there is a relay can you advise which position it sits in the rear of the fuse box as the Haynes Manual has no such diagrams! Useful eh. :(

Lastly .... are there any suggestions on this fault please. I assume as both doors do not trigger the Central Locking mechanism that it's most likely to be the Control Box (or a relay if one exists). Is this a common fault (I've checked the other threads which don't really seem to relate to a similar problem.

I'm planning to put it into a garage as the previous owner (a friend) said he'd cover the cost which is good of him - but thought I'd check here in case it's something very simple and which I can therefore save some money on.

I had a 1996 GLX Felicia that sometimes had a simalar problem. It seemed to be caused when someone used one of the pop up buttons from inside the car, this caused the central locking to fail.

Try the following - from inside the car with all the doors closed, manually push down all the buttons, now pull the drivers door button up - this may reactivate the central locking.

Looking at the electronic parts catalogue, there is an electronic control unit for the central locking but no sign of any relay. Unfortunately the catalogue does not show the location of the control unit. However it is not listed with the fuse box and it is mounted on its own holder bracket.

Time to walk mother and the dog........

I've tried the suggestion with pushing all locks down from the inside etc., still no change unfortunately.

The car was bought for my wife and I did see my son trying to lock the passenger door "manually" as my wife was trying to lock the car with the key ... so now I'm wondering whether indeed what you say was how this situation has arisen. If it's the case then it's an amazingly sensitive design to fail in this way. :(

Also scouted around for the control unit and can't locate it.

I think I'll give a Skoda a call tomorrow and see if they can make any recommendations over the phone - otherwise it's a case of booking it in I suppose.

having a similar problem with c/l on me octy 4x4. all doors lock using c/l botton on key but drivers door stays locked when opening . took it back to dealer & they will replace lock motor as its only 6 months old.

first the c/locking control unit is behind dash panel second if the c/locking has become out of sync with other doors (this happens if passenger/drivers door is only half shut when locking you need to sit in drivers seat and operate only drivers + passengers door knobs up/down simutaneosly a few times) if this doesn't work i would recommend both front door actuators are replaced. I have worked on skoda's for 15 years and have replaced hundreds of actuators and only one control unit . hope this helps

Thanks Big K. I'll check this out. Is it possible to "isolate" which actuator may be causing the problem by disconnecting one and checking if the other works (locks three doors)? Or is it not as straight forward as that .. i.e. do actuators generally need replacing in pairs?

Glad to know that the control unit is unlikely to be the source of the problem.

actuators need not neccessary be replaced in pairs, you might try disconnecting 1 to see if the other will continue working (maybee one actuator is causing conflict) but in my experience i would say both actuators (don't know if skoda would be happy me being on here giving away all there secrets!)

i will do my best hello fabia TDi very new to the site having a look around finding my feet have been working at skoda franchise (not saying which one) for 15 years (give or take a couple years) and have built up a wide knowledge on skoda's i first started my apprenteship on the old rear engine estelle's how times have changed i will be pleased to lend my knowledge to all that need (hence to say i don't have all the answers) as long as skoda don't get the arse! If anyone out there has a problem then feel free to ask i will do my best to get the answer for you.

Try jhmbuttco.com if it's not listedin the calalogue give them a call, they deal directly with the factory. I'm having an even bigger problem with my 96 GLX, mine the motors won't stop running and I think it is somehow tied into the alarm system. When it warms up a bit I will be tracing the entire system and if possible will put a true diagram on for you and others to use as a reference.
