PS3 for folding...

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

been sometime since i posted on here in general and a very long time since in the folding team section....

anyway my lasd got a ps3 so how do i go about setting it up so the folding contributes to my score total aswell as the teams???

Ive heard good things about the ps3 and its folding rate... jsut out of interest being that sony are obviously plugging for their ps3 purchasers to contribute, will this not possibly speed up a possible breakdown of certain components within the ps3

cheers

lee

I used to use the PS3 for folding at night when it wasn't in use.

It does make tremendous progress with the folding scores, but it will only fold a certain type of WU. I stopped eventually as I try to cut down on power use due to the increase in power costs.

so i presume there is a way of telling it what team and your name within the setup then, as i had a quick look on the ps3 site and it seemed as though you would contribute on behalf of sony ????

No it's easy enough to join the Brisky group whilst going through the PS Folding Portal. I can't remember the exact method of joining an existing group, but it is possible as I was folding for Brisky ont PS3.

another night owl then lol

wahoo 88% through d/load now

Yeah, I had a laptop and a desktop folding non stop through a 4 Meg Cable Broadband connection, then I got the PS3 folding as well and the figures went through the roof!

Yr tempting me to make a return now. haha.

;) go on you know you want too :D

who knows one day our efforts could somehow affect if not our own lives then certainly thos of our sibblings/ children etc etc

thats the way i look at it anyhow.... 200Watts apparently the comsuption of the PS3 for folding

oh have set it up and have gone to settings and changed user name/ team number... pretty easy really...

8hrs till first WU then :D

Yep it's really consistent with the folding time as well. Like I say, It'll only do a certain type of WU that doesn't necesarily score as highly as a similar sized WU on a PC, but the turnaround is really quick.

This has reminded me to set this up on my mate's PS3 next time I'm round

Will buy one myself when they get a bit cheaper and GranTurismo is (finally) released.

first WU to be complete in just 7hrs according to the PS3 interface.... so what kinda scores am i expecting to see with this then..

bloody hell iam impressed the speed at which it uploaded the completed WU and then downloaded and started on the new one just now was well errmmm impresive!!!

i know one thing the ps3 box gets bloomin hot, and thats hotter than when playing any games! hmm keep an eye on that

will see later what points it got :D

Been folding with my PS3 for a week now, it takes 6-7 hours per WU and you get around 211-250 points for each. So possibly up to 1000 points per day :)

yeah just took a look as to what the first WU got score wise, was kind of expecting more points....

also noticed at the sametime that my 3rd spot has now gone lol was hoping to get the folding farm back on its feet before that... sigh oh well
