Skoda sports suspension vs FSD+Eibach combo

Featured Replies

Im considering upgrading the suspension in my Octy (for looks really, but improved handling is good too!) Ive been looking at the FSD and Eibach combo, and im wondering how is the ride compared to the Skoda Sports Suspension as i dont want it any harder really? Pics are very welcome of your cars on the FSD+Eibachs especially with Pegasus alloys!

Imo you cannot beat the Eibach/Koni FSD comination on the Octy II, the ride is firm but compliant and is excellent when you want to press on through the twisty bits. I Have not driven in a car with the sports suspension pack you refer to but I suppose the OEM spring/damper combination on the vRS wouldn't be far off and it's a noticable improvement on that.

Go for the Eibach/Koni combo, you wont be dissapointed

thanks makefish, anyone else have any opinions?

Pics PLEASE :)

I have the vRS std springs and FSDs (didn't want to lower it anymore after the south west flooding debarcle of a few months back). Its much more comfortable and handles nicely too. I'm sure the Eibach spings enhance that further.

Oh and my insurer wasn't bothered either, as i wasn't actually 'lowering' the car.

Chris.

I think Fluffmeister is the person best equipped to say.

His vRS had Eibachs and FSD's (now on mine) :D and his latest car has the sports suspension.

I much prefer FSD's over stock suspension. FSD's will be fine with OEM springs.

Ditto ...

However, If you want to sharpen the handling without ruining the ride, get a set of Koni FSDs fitted. These will do exactly this.

They do it by being 'soft' to high frequency movement i.e. over bumps, broken road surfaces etc and 'firm' to low frequency movement i.e. when braking, cornering etc. Magic :D

A rear Neuspeed anti-roll bar will help neutralise the inherent understeer of the car; it works a treat on my vRS TDI.

Try and get a drive in a vRS as IIRC the OEM settings for the vRS are very similar to the 'sport suspension' pack; certainly the shock absorbers will be similarly stiff/firm but the springs may be slightly stronger on the sport pack (as they have less travel to work with).

Finally; I wrote a 'review' of the Koni FSDs about a year ago but the 'Review' section of the forum has moved or disappeared, at least to say I can't find it now. Help anyone?

I have the Eibach lowering springs fitted (with standard dampers) and the ride is sporty but a bit unsettled at times.

I took MakesFish's car out for a spin around a month ago and I could feel the improvement in comfort immediately! Off of the first roundabout and I turned to my passenger (or should that be co pilot?!) "I have to find out what suspension he is running on this" as its superior in all areas - comfort and handling ability - a rare find for a suspension setup.

Needless to say, when the warranty is up I'll be investing in some, without a doubt!

Lee

I found the 'Review' section.

Here is link to the review of Koni FSDs that I posted;- Koni FSD - shock absorbers - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community

IMHO Koni FSDs are a must buy for anyone who wants to drive in a suitably 'Brisk' manner as befits a Briskodian; the only question is whether to link them to lower/stiffer springs. That's up to you. Personally I have regretted buying eibachs on two previous cars but on those they were with either OEM shocks that were too soft or Koni Sports that were too firm.

Perhaps the Eibach + FSDs really is utopia. :D

Are you mad Lee, you don't have to wait until the warranty expires for a fittment like this! It is without question the best mod after a remap imo.

thanks all for your opinions, thats settled it, if its lower and an improvement in handling/ride i really cant go wrong, would still like some pics if any of you have any?

the next delima, should i go for the FSD+Eibach first or should i get a remap?

FSD+Eibach; you'll go round corners faster.

Remap first would be my choice but its up to you really, both are excellent.
