Turbo Q...

Featured Replies

Im thinking of replacing the pooie KKK turbo with a more powerfull garrett or somthing, and i have a mate who is a really good mechanic so will get fitting for free (on the condition i rub down his mk1 golf. lol).

If i fit it, will i need a remap for the engine to run right, or will i just not get full boost or run lean?

If only the case wer true

You will need a remap, a fmic and a performance exhaust to make the best of it.

Cost usually in the region of 2k for that little lot.

Not worth replacing KKK with Garrett unless you do something else too - or if the KKK is broken.

If you do replace it, get a hybrid, they will run nice and reliable and are just as easy to fit (assuming you stick with sensible size ones). You can add to that the cost of a remap, FMIC wouldnt hurt either but you can get away with pikey arch vent mod if you dont go too crazy on the map and are prepared for a little heatsoaking during the warmer times of the year, or if booting it hard through the gears ;)
