tax? how much? MOT and uni.

Featured Replies

hey guy's.

OMG right, i was watching the news earlier and next year they want about £360 for road tax. for a passat, so going on an estate felly that would be bloody expensive :finger: AND in october fuel prices go up again.

anyway.

I had to take my felly in for an MOT 2 days ago.

They still have it , it passed but i havnt gone and got it yet cos they havnt rung me back yet. how are they not finished? all they had to do was fit new tyres, and shoes.

anyway since being a student and with uni coming up soon.

I'm gonna have to sell the felly :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

not sure if i should advertise it now or wait a while?

I still have a few months to go yet.

Thing is i took it to a skoda garage the other day, and he wanted to give me peanuts for it!

And he knew that I knew how much an immaculate Laurin and Klement felicia are worth!

Basta*d i should send him hate mail buy email.

I've looked at prices of other felly's.

And I could get quite a bit for it yet. But it would have to be someone who knew about the value of the car. or they wouldnt pay so much 4 it.

what should i do guys.

Your road tax will only go up to 185 then 200 next year IIRC, you have a years MOT on it now so I would keep it until the MOT is due again. TBH you are probably better off with a car you know.

SWMBO has a 1.6 and fuel consumption is ok parts are cheap and if looked after are pretty reliable cars.

Hmmm fill up self at uni with beer or fill up car with petrol :D

I'd be doing every bit of money saving (or parent begging if my parents had a bit of money :D) I could to try keep it myself. Although most Universities I have been to or visited there is no possibility of parking anywhere near-by for free. I myself go to Leeds Uni one day a week at the moment, and it's a choice between: - drive and drive around for ages looking for somewhere legal to park free or pay more than the bus would cost; catching the bus which at that time of day takes a bit to get through the city centre with people getting off and on and traffic; or walking for 40 minutes there and 40 mins back. I take the last option :)

Only bad thing other than cost is you'll probably have to do everything you can to avoid being the cheap university taxi service unless you're staying at home.

exactly i already fell out with my mates over me being a taxi. Then they have smaller engined cars and have the cheek to ask for fuel money! :thumbdwn:

why do people automatically think if you have a car you will drive them around for free!

I wont be without as I have a bike too, so i would still have transport, and can't be everyones taxi.

I'm not sure if im moving house or staying at home.

Oh i picked the felly this morning £307

mot

2 tyres

rear brake shoes

rear wheel cylinder

at least I got her back, oh and new tyres feel like power steering lol.

I'd guess the delay was needing to order part(s), probably the wheel cylinder.

If you are going to sell your felly do it privately. You will get a heck of a lot more for it. Its always difficult to weigh up what to do for uni. If your going to live near uni then sell your car, if not then take it with you. My sister says she is going to sell hers before going off to uni.

I never went, although now do a course part time which works out ok.

yeah thats what im doing this year.

im taking a gap year and studing motorbike mechanics at college, at least i can work on my own bike, small servicing costs to stay on the road.

When I was choosing where to stay when going to Uni (Huddersfield Uni - live in Leeds) it was a choice between halls for £60 a week I think, and sticking at home and paying £50 a month for a bus/train pass. (Hadn't taken driving lessons etc back then). Choice seemed like a no brainer financially at the time but I think I missed out on getting to know people better etc not being in student accomodation.

your road tax wont go up as the car was made before 2001, at least thats what ive been told or im in the same situation as you, my pug will be paying something like £300 a year and im hopefully going to uni one day in a couple of years
