Back wiper not working

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I recently turned by back wiper on to clear it, not knowing that it was ice. It moved slightly and then just gave up all hope. I have checked the fuses and they are all fine, is it likely to be a burnt out motor or the gears have perished.

It just seems weird that it moved a cm and then no life at all

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I would have expected the fuse to blow if the wiper blade was iced up. Have you tried switching it on and give the wiper arm a push.

If you know electrics I would get access to the motor and check the supply terminal for power.

Give the motor a sniff to check if its burnt out.

Good luck

As calderscot says, you need to check for power

i'm not sure but is the wiper arm connected to the motor spline by a nut, is the nut loose? could even be a break in the wire where it passes through the tailgate.

i know what is probably wrong here and it will be the silly plastic cogs in the wiper motor. If you have a frozen back screen and the motor tries to move a stuck wiper blade the cog just shatters.

To check that it isn't electrical get someone else to turn on the wiper with the ignition on and stand at the back of the car listening for the motor working. If you can hear this working then have a trip down to the scrapper for a replacement, unless you have a variety of plastic cogs from a meccano set lying around!!

Try it again later. Mine stopped working once then worked again later, but has always had a problem "parking" in the correct postion since I got the car. I fcan only assume water was shorting out the motor and stopping it working or something.
