Petrol Caps

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know where I could get a metallic silver petrol cap for a Fabia? I've recently had mine in at a main dealers (Main Skoda dealer in leeds! :thumbdwn:) twice and they've failed to match the paint correctly (almost a dark grey from some angles) under warranty so I'm thinking that I might have better luck finding a second hand one as they've said its the best they can do.

Has anyone had any luck spraying exterior plastic with metallic silver i.e bumper or mirror surrounds?

Any advise welcome,

Cheers

Mike.

You could try Skospares here:

Be sure that you ask for the correct part. From the first part of your post it would appear that you require the screw on cap for the petrol tank painted in Diamond Silver, when they only come in black. Reading it further it appears that you want the fuel flap and as your cars HP is stated as 130, presumably for a diesel VRS, the fuel type sticker will be different on a petrol. There are 2 types of fuel flap - one for a remote release (likely for your car), and one which you have to open manually (it has a lip on it). If it is subject of a warranty claim the dealer should be able to claim for a bodyshop to paint it and if it is wrong get the bodyshop to rectify it. You could try the aerosol method, the result will depend on how thorough you are in the preparation.

Hi,

Thanks for the response, you are indeed correct with all your assumptions. Initially it was the remote latch that had broken, but under inspection the dealer informed me that a warped fuel flap had caused it to break?? The meant that I had to have them spray a new one in diamond silver in their bodyshop. Their first attempt wasn't a perfect match so i had them do it again which didn't seem to go down well (never know service so bad). This second attempt (if they even bothered) is still as bad a s the previous so I'm now trying to sort it out myself. (unfortunately they didn't keep my original flap, which was a perfect match)

Do you think that i should push back and get them to pay for an independent bodyshop to do the work for me, or go see another skoda dealer for their opinion?

I can post pics if required so that you can see the damage :)

Mike.

I have had luck in the past by applying heat with a hair dryer and massaging the flap back into shape. What often happens is that the cable comes out of its location and is a 5 minute job to put right.

They didn't keep the original flap? If it was a warranty claim on a new car warranty they have to keep all parts removed, suitably labelled for a minimum amount of time (around 3 months), if they don't then they are not following the correct procedure. They should be able to get the colour right, though reasonably the finish from a body shop can never be exactly that of the manufacturer. Be reasonable with them and ask them if their bodyshop is incapable of matching the colour can they recommend one that can - if so what will be their financial contribution to getting the job done right?
