Help me choose a new model of car

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 55 plate Furby VRS and love it. the only thing is the boot is wayyy to small. So heres what i need.

Estate

4x4

Diesel

the ability to tune to say 250 bhp

being as there are so many models, what do you reccomend. If i can get all this from an octy then great.

Cheers

Lee

Try an Octy 4x4 Estate 2.0TD PD.Theres a Skoda Dealer near me in Peterborough who also holds the franchise for Superchips and chips Skodas either New or Used. They would be able to give you some advice as to what power you can get.(01733) 296969.

Either that or try JabbaSport. They are VAG remap/tuning specialists and a lot of Octavias have been 'worked' on by them.

You won't get 250bhp from an octavia without very major modifications.

The 4x4 has the PD140 engine , so a decent remap would get you 175-ish , but for much more than that it's a big turbo as a starting point. Still , a remapped PD140 would be a decent performing car and might be worth a look.

If you are determined to get 250bhp , you'll find it much easier with something like a Volvo or Audi that has more cylinders to play with :)

You have not said why these are you requirements. Be easier to suggest options if you said why it needs to be 4*4 etc

4x4 better traction in inclement weather

derv better gallons to the mile

Estate as i teach martial arts and cant fit all me kit in the car with work stuff.

remappable cos i had an evo 7 before my furby and liked the useable power for overtaking.

Is that the octy 1 or 2 tho. Any thoughts.

Ok...

2.0 4x4 Oct 2

std turbo 175bhp and 310 lbft.

hybrid std turbo 210 bhp and 340 lbft would require upgraded clutch.

vrs hybrid turbo 230 - 240bhp and 350 lbft would require upgraded clutch.

clutch is around £1000 as the lots of the 4x4 stuff has to be removed to do the clutch.

vrs turbo hybrid is around £1000 + fitting (hybrid original approx £400 - £500)

and then the remap... cira £500

suspension and brakes... not sure what suspension kits are available for the 4x4, but there might be a coil over available. brakes lots to choose from from simple 312mm vrs with sports pads to R32 brakes and beyond!

the 1.9 is not really an option if your looking for 250 as that would require new turbo, i think oct 2 all have front mount intercoolers so you wouldn't need that but the real money would be injectors.. lots to do to change and very expensive. also the 1.9 oct 2 4x4 has a very low 1st gear... nuff said about 1.9

Interesting info

Personally I think the cost of modding to 250bhp is going to be way more expensive that actually running a diesel itself.

Hence our friend here might be better in forgetting 4*4 (it would have to be seriously inclement to really need it - or your going to fast in the first place) and getting the vRS and mapping it to 210 bhp ish. Anything else as thewes has noted is going to cost a packet.

Chris

If the 4x4 isn't for rough and tumble then surely a 2nd hand A4 or A6 Avant quattro would actually be the cheapest way to go?

Having done a little more research.

what I am looking for is the acceleration of my mapped furby circa 195 bhp with good traction in the wet, off the line and getting rid of the understeer in the wet.

the local dealer has told me off the line the vrs estate will ve faster even with the esp light on.

I assume that would not be the case if the 4x4 was remaped to circa 200 or 210. 250 was a bit ambitous to be honest.

That question sorted I assume the derv vrs estate will still under steer in the wet.
