You only have to look at my Avatar for a description of what a 75hp 1.4 16v Auto Fabia sounds like. Im getting a bit sick and tired of using the Air conditioning to cancel out the whine. The whine almost definatley comes from the Transmission, as the whine goes really loud in engine braking and Iv'e driven a 1.4 Octy with no whining noise. The whine peaks at 3000rpm, and pretty much flattens out at 4000, not increasing in pitch as the car goes to the red line. Problem is it is annoying. It seems to be when going up hills e.t.c, when the tranny is under a load that the whine intensifies. I can almost see people thinking "Oh look, A batterey powered skoda would you beleive" Can i Cancel the whine without using the AC?

Has the dealer checked the transmission for you, and do other Fabia autos sound similar? The only whine (actually a whirring) I had from an auto transmission was on an Audi 100 - the torque converter was shot and the noise was metal to metal contact inside it.

Oh dear, I didn't suspect a mechanical fault. I don't know if any others sound the same (Anyone on here with a Fabia Auto?, didn't think so) lol, The car was a Skoda Owned Company car, so It was probably never run in, it has probably been thrashed to. Can any1 send in a recording of a Auto fabia?

Though if worst comes to worst, I could lie and say it's my Turbocharger

No, When I put the AC on the whole engine note changes and gives a throaty growl and the whine dissapears. Mine is the same, especially in engine braking, though reving it in neutral it does it aswell.

I believe that it is normal for idle RPM to be increased automatically by the ECU to compensate for the extra load on the engine when aircon is selected ON.
