Should I keep it???

Featured Replies

Some of you may have seen my wife's TFSI octy MkII Combi for sale on the classifieds at the moment. I was pretty sure that it was time for a change, but since the car has been to Marlborough Skoda, I am having serious second thoughts.... Not only have they managed to rectify the creaking suspension by fitting new anti roll bar bushes, but they were an absolute pleasure to deal with and have knocked out the various scrapes and dings in the car spotlessly. I have even got used to the seats, which I found very uncomfortable at first.

I could still part with the car on a part ex, for something much more exotic and much faster (RS4 - which I have always dreamed of owning), but I really like the Octy again now and I can't tell you how much difference a decent dealer makes.....

What would you do?

Keep it and get a remap.

It'll never be an RS4 but it can be fun.

I'm not being funny but if I could afford an RS4 I wouldn't be driving a VRs in the first place.

Based on the mileage you've done in two years, I'd be tempted to go for something more exotic but older. I'm assuming you're considering a virtually new RS4 here though, which would give a very significant budget for something super-nice.

Do you need four doors, do you need practicality, would it be a daily driver for your wife ?

You only live once :)

im with u on that one jonno,if u can afford one say bye bye to vrs.id give my left ball for a rs4

Keep it or better still get a mk1 and get modding:woohoo:

With tax, petrol and speed limits going the way they are, you're probably better living any dreams you have sooner rather than later, imho....

Actually, I could afford an RS4 but probably wouldn't stay married for long

I was actually considering buying a low mileage B5 RS4, not a new B7 one.

Driven a few now and not only is it a timeless classic, but a custom remap and miltek makes it a weapon, and it just has that quality car thing going on...

The bit about living dreams is exactly what has prompted me to act now before (a) we all get taxed into 75mpg polo blue motions (B) the kids are young enough to fit in the back of the RS4; © it might be possible to resell it in a year or two.

I just feel a need to stop being all sensible - the Octy was a sensible family choice) - and live the dream before it's too late....

One drawback is that I will need to convince the missus to halve the amount of kit she takes away with us to fit into an audi..... LOL

Surely its hard to find a spacious, sporty car with comfortably enough performance for brisk motoring (on today's congested road etc.) that's not going to set you back an arm and a leg to run and insure it.

Particularly as your dealer has come good (strangely anti-roll bar bushes are an Achilles heel on the Fabia for knocking and squeaking) -

Keep the Octy TFSI and get your value out of it; how many niggles might an older RS4 have, that will drive you to distraction?
