225 Inlet Manifold on VRS???

Featured Replies

Have already searched for that..

they tend not to break engines down but sell them complete.

Oh, and yes, they have a BAM 225 engine in stock too. :D

Hmmm

Point to note, GarryC lives near me and thinks "engine build is nothing to me really" and that new engine mounts are something you do "because the car was on the ramps anyway".

Have you thought about the SEM manifold? It comes with the inlet on the side you are after (I was researching it because I had the same thought you had about intercoolers).

Make the bay look nice and tidy and shorten the inlet pathway a bit...

If you are going big turbo, try to stick with the standard manifold entry side and route the boost pipe from the turbo, over the right hand side of the engine and down by the horn. This way it keeps the boost pipe away from the turbo, no heat soak from exhaust manifold. :D

or if your going to keep the standard route then go for some decent coatings on both the boost pipes and the manifold/turbo/downpipe. its not cheap, not at all seeing as the manifold alone will probably cost around £400 to get coated.

I have now sourced a 225 inlet so will see about fitting that before upgrading to something more fancy.

Since this thread was started i have considered many different options but am going to wait until my workshop has some free time and then see what routing works best.

I would like to go BT but the boss is wanting a new bathroom this summer instead do will have to get that done first :( Maybe over the winter.

Yes i would probably get the parts coated once i had made them as a matter of course. Another perk of running an exhaust design and manufacture company means it wont cost too much :D

Thanks for the replies :)

how much did your new engine mounts set you back mate?

easy-ish job to change?

I think they were around £200 - £300 for the set of 3 i think.

Was a nice simple job to change but i have access to a ramp which helped. That said my engine is off the mounts now and not on a ramp so i would hazard a guess and say a 3 spanner job :)

Hope this helps.

OUCH!!!

haha and i was thinking they would only be around the £100 - £150 ish mark

Found them :)

Right hand side engine mount = £149.25 + vat (LINK HERE)

Left hand side gearbox mount = £129.00 + vat (LINK HERE)

Cant rate them enough. They are not the cheapest but my gosh are they good. A worth while mod on any FWD car to try and keep the engine where its ment to be :)

Garry are you going to be fitting the intercooler and manifold anytime soon? I know you have been planning this for months and i am interested to see if you can get that mani to fit.

Once i have fixed my brakes it will be the next job to tackle, lol.

I gave the intercooler i had (Evo 9 GPA) to a mate for his Corrado Turbo project so i need to source another. Will probably get one like you used except 2.25" pipe work.

I am now looking at using the OE Manifold and routing the pipe work the other way round, but will wait and see which route is the best once i start the job and get a box of bits together. Another bonus of running an Exhaust company is being able to make up custom pipe work. The only downside to that is it will be stainless steel rather than ally so will be a bit heavier.

One day, one day :)
