Misfiring VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Having owned my Octavia vRS for about 4 months now I have to say I've had nothing but problems from it the entire time. Don't get me wrong I love it to bits but in those 4 months it's probably functioned properly for a grand total of 2 weeks.

The latest problem I have, and it is an ongoing problem, is a pressure drop on cylinder 3 (Pressure or compression, it's one of the two). Now I had all my coil packs changed by a Skoda dealership the other day and I still have the problem. I've booked it in to be diagnosed for 2 days next week but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and knew what the solution was as it will save me a lot of time and cost!! It's an ex police car and from what Skoda say it has been chipped so I don't know if maybe that has anything to do with it. Anyway, any advice, no matter how insignificant it may seem would be appreciated as I'm fast considering burning it to the ground.

Cheers.

sound like a silly idea but loose spark plug?

If you can find someone local who has Vag-com they maybe of some use to you ;)

My guess would be a broken or cracked valve. If the spark plug is loose the coil would stick up out of the engine cover higher than the other cylinders. A compression test would only reveal a small lose of compression.

Cheers for the suggestions people. I did ask them to check the spark plugs when they changed the coil packs and they said they were all fine. Got it booked in for 2 days at the local dealership so they can do a full diagnosis so hopefully they'll find something! Cracked valve sounds like a distinct possibility.

After a several hours wondering what on earth could be causing these problems I was wondering, does anyone know if it could be an issue with my DV? Basically the issue I have is if I get it up to about 70mph+ It will feel like it's holding back on the power, and then there's a surge and then it holds again and it's like a see-saw! After that happens though, it runs horrifically in all gears and feels as though it could cut out at any point. Just wondering if anyone has a clue as to what it could be?
