Refurbing a badge

Featured Replies

After my old TDI badge got no joy on Ebay, I have decided to refurb it and paint it silver. :) I have plenty of paint anyway. lol.

Going to attack it with sandpaper first to rough it up and remove the red paint on the I, and hoping to get away with not using any primer (as I have none for metal)

Going to then be stuck on to my grille, to try and give the front a bit of a logo. :)

PS: I'm ditching the black plastic backing and just using the metal bit.

You wh*re... You can't pretend it's a tdi 90, go paint it all metalic red ;)

I think you should upgrade and get some of the old golf GT TDI badges.

I am doing something with THIS pictured badge. I do have a tin of skoda metallic black at home as it happens, so the choice is either:

1) diamond silver badge on front grille

2) black magic badge on bootlid.

:D

First stage has begun. :)

Decided that a small coat of smooth silver hammerite would act as a good primer layer, as well as being a good colour match in itself to the silver.

I could still go black. :)

This is pretty much the finished article. Hasn't dried yet so cannot really tell if the finish is as good as I would have liked. It's only 1 coat of hammerite, about 3 light dustings of diamond silver and 2 coats of lacquer. The cold weather has not helped today with the paint drying. :(

Nice log mate! :D

If it's between silver or black then I have to say I'm thinking black on the **** of the car then.

Going in the wood burner soon. :D

Only hope I don't get high on the fumes! ;)
