Fabia Vrs questions

Featured Replies

A few questions I have as im condsidering buying a Fabia vRS. So instead of multiple posts il just put them all here.

Ive seen Fabia vRS's in silver, black, red, yellow and the SE which is in race blue.

Are there any other colours and will the red and yellow colours fade like my old red Astra used to?

I have read about problems with the anti roll bar and bushes. When my dad bought his Octavia mk1 2nd hand the 1st thing we fixed was the anti roll bar. The mechanic who did it, a mate of ours said it was a common thing that also went on the 1st Audi TT's

I've read that many on here just put on SEAT parts instead of the Skoda ones. Are there any differences in the suspension in either cars? Do you just swap like for like? So if I wanted parts for a Fabia, could I just go into a SEAT dealer and ask for parts for an Ibiza Cupra or FR. I did read somewhere and was told that the Audi A3 and the Fabia both have the same chassis. So could I just upgrade the Fabia parts with A3 parts where needed?

The colours you mention are the only one's you can get in vRS. Red & Yellow arnt metalic like the others so you would have to keep them well waxed & polished to keep them looking mint.

The Audi A3 is a different platform to the fabia. The A3 is the same platform as the golf, octavia, leon and the fabia is the polo, ibiza platform.

Right i'll handle these individually..

vRS colours,

Red

Yellow

Silver

Black

Race Blue for SE

Thats it, all colours are good providing they are looked after. Black is the most difficult id say and does show up the stonechips.

ARB bushes arent that common on the vRS, the main problem is the rear wishbone bush, this is the item that gets replaced with the Cupra item as its solid, this is where there is a little confusion I think.

A3 is the same chassis as the Octavia.

Right I was thinking that was the case. But when it come to parts could I use Ibiza Cupra parts? Shouldn't it be a straight swap as they are practically the same cars

The Cupra has different damping rates and spring rates so I wouldnt swap those suspension parts.

Anti roll bars etc will swap but I dont know the size differences.

I was just asking about the ARB because it seems to come up as a common thing thats changed and replaced with Cupra parts. Are there any other bits on a vRS that are common problems or things I would need to watch out for when buying one?

Another question I have is if I wanted to put Golf GTI Mk5 alloys (18") on a vRS would it throw the speedo out by much? Ive never put alloys on a car before so i'm not sure.

you wont be able to put the genuine mk5 gti wheels on your fabia as the fabia has a PCD of 5x100 and the mk5 golf has a PCD of 5x112, you might be able to get replica's though.

The Skoda Yellow fades underneath the lacquer, two yellow ones i know have faded most noticeably on the plastic parts, i.e the rear spoiler etc.

And i'd say the red will be liable to fading over time.

Also the Black is the nicest colour when clean - as in most car's, wont stay clean for long though

Ye I was thinking about getting it in black. I could go silver but I see so many silver cars these days i'm fed up of it.

The last link is definitely for genuine alloys and apparently fits all VW group cars. Would fitting bigger rims greatly affect the accuracy of the speedo? and how big can i go with rims on a vRS?

I believe normal practice is to try where possible and pick lower profile tyres to minimise the increase on the rolling radius. Bear in mind that 18s might require mods to prevent rubbing...

It is my understanding that the red fade on 80/90s cars came about when lead was banned from being used in the paint - and the original lead-free paints ddn't last well..

Cheers,

Stu
