vRS Standard springs - what shocks?

Featured Replies

Well I think my rear shocks are going - the car definitely bounces over the bumps more than it used to.

I'm not interested in lowering the car, so springs can stay as they are, so what shocks do people recommend?

Also should I look at changing bushes at the same time?

Car is 4 years old but only 71,000km

But 40k of those is on NZ's bumpy twisty roads!

FSD if you can get them or the eibach adjustable if cost is a big issue.

I'd also put new bushes in at the same time and do the ARB bushes as they will only fail soon after otherwise :(

Adjustables are not so good in NZ as you have to have the car re-certified when they're on!

I guess FSD then, especially if the roads are rough. Eibach also do some sports suspension ones that are none adjustable, but I'm guessing shipping is going to be your major cost anyway :(

Please buy some FSDs Rob - you won't regret it

Emailing now... Cheers :)

Rob,

Completely off topic...but how long did your car take to get to NZ from here ?

If the roads are bumpy and twisty I can't see any aftermarket dampers lasting much longer than OEM items (my Eibach dampers were about half worn after 20k miles of UK bumpy twisty roads).

So if you're feeling flush FSD are a good option ;)

It was in Liverpool for a few weeks waiting for them to fill the rest of the 40ft container (they forgot to mention that when I dropped it off!!)

The actual journey took about six weeks - via the Middle East, I was tracking the ship online!

Then it was about a week at port, then a couple of days by train and truck to get to Wellington to be checked by the customs peeps.

I dropped it off October 25th ish, finally drove it again January 25th ish.

Thankyou Rob.

Much appreciated.

Looking at the Koni website, they list FSDs for the RS saloon but not the combi:

Octavia Sedan RS

excl. 4 wheel drive 00-04 FSD 2100-4048

Sport 8710-1385 Sport 80-2761Sport

Octavia Combi RS

excl. 4 wheel drive 00-04 Sport 8710-1385 Sport 80-2815 Sport

Okay, the wonderful Sarah at Awesome has told me that FSDs for the saloon will fit the estate.

Cost to me in NZ works out at about $1200 delivered  possibly plus 12.5% GST if customs charge me.

OEM replacement shocks here are about $700 - though they tell me that they're the same as Golf Mk4 shocks - is that correct?

So the question is are the FSDs really worth twice as much as OEM shocks?

Talked to the Skoda dealer and they've quoted the proper shocks - NOT the same as the Golf :)

$462 fitted for just the rears.

Given that I need to do the cambelt, water pump and wheel bearing for another $1750 I'm finding it hard to justify the same again for shocks :(

Ouch !

Although, once they're all done, it's going to be a while before the all need doing again. :)

If your happy with the ride of the standard shocks why change them buy standard shocks from your local skoda dealer.
