Stupid AirCon!

Featured Replies

Why is it my Aircon only seems to work when the ambient temperature is cold? If it's winter and I use my aircon, I get a nice chilly breeze through the car (like you would expect).

However, as soon as it gets hot outside, the Aircon rarely works....as if it's just pushing air without cooling it first.

Any ideas? :( Ta

Sounds like the problem I had with mine. Turned out to be the evap temp sensor which seems to be a common problem. A fault code scan should show whether it's this :D

There's also a DIY guide on here on how to replace it without paying dealer prices ;)

Fault scan is around £20 isn't it? The temp sensor is around £15? I think I'll just replace it anyway :) Question is, where do I buy one and how do I know which is correct for a 1.4 16V or are they all the same?

£20 for a scan?

I dont know how much truth is in it or if it's correct but a work colleague had to get his Audi tt plugged in at the dealerships and it was £60 just for a check, since as its the same group VAG i'd expect Skoda to be the same??

Yeah most dealerships I've encountered charge an hour's labour for a (5 minute!) fault scan  Find someone on here local to you with VAG-COM and they should be able to do it for some beer tokens ;)

AFAIK, the sensor is the same on the all the Fabias....

Ooh, me! Me! Me! ;) I did the guide - it's here!

I suggest reading it to check the symptoms of your air con problem, and trying to find a friendly local Briskodian with VAG-COM if you're still unsure, like Chris has suggested. I only say this, as a scan at a dealership will set you back almost as much as the part! I managed to get the one I needed from stock, but there have been other times when I've had to order stuff, and the dealers in question have been happy to post them for no extra charge... :)

Not that you probably need air con much right now, but I hope you get it sorted!
