The difference between HD and SD on a PS3 are like night and day! However, the console is still worth buying. I had mine on a normal SD tv for a while and still loved it! Just love it more with the new 1080p HD telly!

Just installing GT5 as I type this! Hopefully it won't be a let down!

:confused::confused:

Friend of mine has a PS3 running through a 32" 100hz telly via Component video and he is still very impressed.

I did the same while waiting for the new telly to be delivered and the difference was incredible but the quality through the SD set was still very good.

Get the PS3 now.

If all you have is the telly, you won't think any high-def console will look that bad as you haven't got something better to compare it against ;)

But if or rather when you get a hd capable set, it'll look even better and you'll wonder how you ever managed with a normal CRT.

I'm tempted to pick up a 1080p LCD telly from work as there's a special end-of-year offer. Bit silly considering I have a 2.5m picture with the projector which is awesome, but not always that practical when you just want a 5 minute blast and it's broad daylight outside :rolleyes:

I used to run the PS3 via a 100Hz CRT snd it was perfectly servicable, marginally beter than a PS2 due to the better graphics.

I would encourage you to get a PS3 and run it through the CRT first as, as Xav says, once you get round to getting an HD panel, the difference will blow you away. Thus cementing your desire for all things HD :D

You're welcome to pop along the M4 for a bit and see it at my place :)

before we had a PS3 i had only an xbox 360 and when my telly broke we played it on the loan set (20" normal telly) and it looked shocking and infact somegames were unplayable virtually as they were made for HD screens and didn't scale well at all down to SD. never tried a PS3 on an SD telly and not all games were bad on the SD telly.

and while wre are on the subject of the PS3 does anyone else get pi$$ed off like that games have to install? :mad: :mad: i mean how fu**ing stupid is this?? you get home with your shiny new copy of GT5 and throw it right into your PS3 and then have to wait for 5-10minutes for the game to install i mean wtf are sony thinking?? yet another time when the 360 is better.

i brought a p3 about 1 month ago to use on my 42inch panasonic plasma moniter (not hd) iwth intention on buying a HD later in the year, two days later was playing ps3 on a freinds HD tv and as said the differance is night and day. so the next day a saw a very nice panasonic 50 inch hd for £900 :D, so much for waiting, i supose the clutch will have to wait.

for £900 and 50" thats not a full HD screen, not a full 1920x1080 although it may display a 1080i picture through upscaling.

1080p is where its at :)

Hehe. HD's where it's as indeedy :thumbup:

I think I'll cave in and buy that KDL-40D3500 as it's only 500 notes on special offer. If I don't want it, I'm sure someone else will buy it off me at that price :)

haven't even opened the box on the PS3 yet , got the GT5 and Burnout games yesterday , just need to get a TV , been looking at Sony KDL40X3000 , but its still a bit expensive :(

Howay Man! Get your telly bought and get the PS3 fired up. The PS3 is not merely a games console. Get ready for Blueray fillum amazingness, and the streaming of Xvid fillums, pictures and music from your PC as well.

You'll never look back once you get an HD TV, never mind if you can't receive a whole lot of HD channels yet, the fillums and games and HD content from your computer will keep you amused for ever!

corect not full hd but good enough for me (for now) if i wanted the full HD it was £1400 and it wouldnt fit on my wall because the speakers make it to wide.

Just ordered the TV , but from what i've read in the GT5 thread i may be disappointed in the game , oh well Burnout should be ok

:confused::confused:

some stuff will only look crap compaired to seeing it on a proper HD telly, but still be perfectly servicable whereas some stuff will crap because it doesn't scale well/properly to SD - I know it's 360, but there was a bit of hoo-haa about the text in Dead Rising being all but unreadable on an SD telly

GT5 is visually fantastic! The game is also fantastic! But it may not last that long seeing as it only has limited number of cars and tracks. But thats why it only cost about £20 and not £45 like all the other PS3 games.

Not sure what the others were expecting for twenty quid, but I think it's good value for money and would definately recommend it at the price.
