Steering ?

Featured Replies

Hi

Put this on Octy 1 section also as it concerned both, but maybe there are more Octy 2 drivers having driven a 1 than the contrary

Wife is at this time returning down a motorway, and is finding the steering harder in traffic and motorway in the company Octy 1. She uses one of two Skoda, and at this time is driving the company 1.9td tor elegant and she tells me that the steering is far heavier than her Octy 2 4x4 Amb, that she more recently has been useing. Both still have winter tyres, any reason for this ?? or is she imagining it.

Octy 2, 1.9 TDI PD Ambiente 4x4 Combi and Nissan Sunny 2.0 DLX, Company Octy 1.9 TDI Tor Combi.

Well the two cars do have a very different suspension set up but i don't think the MK I octy was particularly heavy.

Have you checked the power steering fluid levels etc.

The steering on the Octy 2 is Electro-Hydraulic while (IIRC) the Octavia 1 has direct hydraulic steering so it may be the difference between the 2 that is being noticed.

It might be an idea to check the power steering fluid levels in the Octy 1.

Doohh, I missed the second one was a II.

Yeah that will do it though. You can make the II heavier :)

Yep, steering weight is VAG-COM-able

As the Octy II has the aforementioned leccy steering it probably has better speed sensitivity control etc.

I drove an older A4 with the direct hydraulic steering and it felt much heavier than the Octavia setup

As long as you can do a quick lock to lock in the Mk1 with no drastic steering weight changes it should be ok.

Hi

Thank you for your input on this subject, didn't read mails until now sorry for that. Amazing how the Octy 1 group gave us more of a need to check the steering ( we will do that anyway) however it is still on warranty, so should be fine. Then the Octy 2 group gave more technical reasons for the difference between the two re Electro-Hydraulic to direct hydraulic steering . Thank you again.
