'elp - Fuel Filter Replacement

Featured Replies

This doesn't look like Haynes.

The pipe clips look like simple metal wrap-arounds. Do they fit back on or do they need replacing - if so where do I get them from?

Also although the canister is loose, it certainly doesn't want to come upwards. Don't see any bolts, perhaps I just need to pull hard enough?

There's 3 wee black clips around the edge of the fuel filter. You can see two of them in your picture -one of thems inbetween the two pipes coming from the fuel tank. I got a screwdriver and just prised them away from the filter.

oh, you can see all three. From that picture they're around the edge, at 10 o'clock, 2o'clock and half fiveish.

I replaced it - and promptly returned the original part back into service again.

The replacement - Bosch - has pipes angled 180 degrees from each other. The Skoda rubber hoses were never going to plug in to them. And the parts desk of the main dealer closed at 12.

Grr!

Air filter went in fine though :)

doh! That's the same thing that happened to me!

My Main dealer put jubilee clips on the replacement.

OK the mystery deepens.

I called Wilko for the right part - none in stock. As I explained I really needed to see the part before purchase to ensure the correct pipe directions they asked what I had:

Bosch 0450906374

They have this listed as SDI, it's different for TDI apparently.

Yet Googling for it reveals this page: SCT-Germany is your best choice!. It doesn't mention Fabia but does have Golf 1.9 TDI ATD 74/100 (which is mine). Should Eurocarparts take the part back then? It really won't fit without modifications to the fuel hoses as they won't reach otherwise!

I didn't. I selected the make and model of my car from their web site: Model: FABIA 1.9 TDI ATD : 74k

Problem is that I didn't realise there was a problem until I'd put the old filter into the new one's box, so there's some stain on the box itself.

The SDi and TDi 1.9 4 cylinder Fabia fuel filters are the same, the 3 cylinder 1.4 TDi is different. From what you say it seems like they supplied you with an Octavia fuel filter.

I agree although everywhere I went for one gave me a a different filter as this is what they stocked for that and a lot of the PD engines

I used to find that only the dealer used to stock the Bosch filter and so I fitted a fram one which was a bit longer with a drain, however, the pipe where always in the right place so it's not for a Fabia.
