hi everyone im new to the forum. About to pick up my first skoda soon. Getting a wee fabia vrs because my john cooper works mini is to sore on the old juice. Its a 2005 red vrs. I was just wondering about a few things. i want to change the alloys but dont really know what to get i want a multi spoke wheel in white but dont what to get or if 17 or 18" as i heard that 18" scobe. Does the fabia need lowered or would that wreck the vrs suspension? Also i really want to try and achieve the so called "180bhp chip" so which is the best chip to get??? im in n.ireland so dont no if theres any places about who can do that remap for me....

Big thanks to everyone on this forum already because iv been reading up on some posts about the vrs for a wee while now and everyone seems to love the VRS fabia so im defintaly getting one now and i cant wait...............

:D:D:D

Best chip is a mild map and a low torque figure, the so called 180 bhp maps never produce this on the actual rolling road so your looking at more 165/170 bhp which in a fwd hatch is more than enough. Mild maps i've heard of are the like's of Jabbasport, Superchips at Glasgow also offer a mild map which is quite good, so maybe a ferry over to Stranraer and a wee trip upto glasgow (well worth it) i have a Star Performance map on my vrs which is a bit harsh and has quite a bad torque spike (check sig) on it which resulted in the untimely death of my OEM clutch :thumbdwn: You will have to be wary how you drive after a map and adjust your driving style accordingly (drive more like a petrol and dont give the beans from low down)

17's are the best compromise between looks and handling, i run the octavia mk I spiders with 215/40/17 tires.

Lowering wise if your going for 17's or 18's it will look like its on stilts, best combo for a small drop are Eibach springs teamed up with Koni FSD's, im running the Eibachs on standard shockers which is acceptable im told.

The eibachs and koni's will improve the cars road presence ;)

So pretty much get it lowered before setting it on 17"s??? Is it best to get a chip or a remap????????

remap

Y is a remap better? Also from an all round performance point of view what is the best set up for suspension/wheels?

lowered/16"?????

lowered/17"?????

standard?????

Remapping re-flashes the cars ecu and instructs it to add more fuel/more boost whilst getting accurate information from all vital sensors such as air flow and fuel temp etc.

'Chipping' is a device which is added to the car which usually intercepts a signal from one or more of the cars sensors, which will then fool the eu to add more fuel/boost and is a much more crude way of adding more power and will increase the liklihood of damaging the engine as it's fault and self preservation features will be impaired.

Superchips at glasgow remap,

The tuning boxes (chips) from what i know arent too bad, quite cheap too, you could get one from the internet for around £200 and get it couriered over to NI - probaly a good idea for you ;)

Best combo if you want a subtle drop and dont want to threaten your sump is the Eibach springs (-25mm) teamed up with some Koni FSD shockers. Although the Koni's arent a necessity as the Eibachs are progressive they will still work with OEM shockers.

Cheapest place for the Eibachs is Awesome performance, £135 i think ?

cheers dude. Were abouts can you get the tuning boxes for £200? That would definatly big a big help for me because im quite limited over here and i wouldnt reccoment some of the guys over here who do actually remap because they dont use rolling roads or anything.
