2001 Octavia VRS Petrol - Shocks

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im wondering if anyone knows what shocks i need to get for my 2001 Octavia VRS - 180bhp Petrol.

The 2 front Shocks are needing replacing and seems to be very expensive at 183euro ex VAT from main dealers. This is my first not so run of the mill car so its all new to me.

If any of you can help at all i would be extreemly grateful.

Regards,

Fionn

unless your considering upgrading to aftermarket dampers i would stick with the dealer ones. possibly try and indipendant VAG specialist and see what they can offer.

Would anyone happen to know the part number for the shocks in the VRS?

A motor factors has shocked listed for an Octavia 1.8T would these be the same as the VRS.

Any help is much appriciated.

Thanks Again,

Fionn

Try your local motor factors :)

Thats who has the part for 1.8turbo but im not sure if it is the same as whats in the VRS model.

Thanks

Fionny,

I went through the same pain last year! Skoda dealers in Ireland wanted huge money for the shocks. Going to Fastfit and the like was no use as they tried to use the shocks for the 1.8T not the RS and they didn't fit - apparently the drop links are in the wrong place??? Anyway, What I ended up doing was buying original RS shocks from a Skoda dealer in the UK - Robert Bamford I think was who I used, but they should all do them for about the same price. Speaking of which, the price was, get this, approx half of what the Irish dealers were charging. I gave them the chassis number from the car, told them it was an AUQ engine etc and they sussed out the right parts. Even with the currency change and shipping it still worked out cheaper. Best bet to get them fitted then is to use a proper independent garage - I have a fella over in Swords who knows his way around VAG suspensions. Again Fastfit etc wouldn't touch struts that they hadn't supplied themselves.

Also tried GSF for the parts (they've got a couple of branches in Ireland) but they didn't do the RS ones.

Hope that helps

Baz

I bought 2 fronts last year from the Skoda dealer in Stevenage, Hertfordshire - they were just over £50 each.

Looks like I could with another 2 fronts as its sloppy as feck again now!
