My keyboard goes weird sometimes

Featured Replies

...Sometimes it's not my fault either (or I don't think so anyway)

So what happens is, every so often I'll be writing a report at work, and it's fine, and then suddenly the location of letters on the keyboard will rearrange themselves and I end up typing a complete load of gibberish (more so than usual). For example, the word 'report' will turn into 'p.iRpy' and the like. I often touch type aswell, and this can go on for a number of lines. The only way I've found to change the keyboard back to normality is to reset the computer.

It's not a problem as such, in fact I find it quite amusing. I just wondered if anyone knew what was likely to be causing it and if there's any other way to cancel it than to reboot.

Thankyou for reading

Kay.

Coffee, snot or jam in the keyboard?

Got another keyboard to try?

You might need to do a BIOS update on the motherboard. I had some keyboard issue (wouldn't work after a reboot) and it was a BIOS issue.

Some keyloggers exhibit this symptom.

Have you scanned for nasties lately?

Is your keyboard wireless? I have a similar problem with my logitech...

It isn't a wireless keyboard, just a regular hp one that came with the computer (just over 2 years ago). There were a few other computers bought at around the same time but mine seems to be the only one it happens to.

I do a scan about once a month but it still happens. When it happens again I'll try connecting a different keyboard to see if that makes a difference.

Try an online scanner. Many nasties stop the onboard scanner detecting/removing them.
