Clunk

Featured Replies

Hey there guys... only me!

I've had a problem with my felicia for a while now but not bothered to do anything about it.

Its basically a clunking/knocking noise when using the clucth.

So when i go to set off and lift my foot off the clutch there is a clunk that can be felt through the clutch and gearstick etc and then when i change the same again... if i drive it very gently it doesn't happen.

Also if im driving along and let go of the acclelerator it clunks, and also when i press the accelerator again... so basically when the load on the engine shifts from front to back.

Any suggestions?

Had a quick look and doesn't seen to be an engine mount that making the noise.

Maybe knackered clutch or gearbox...?

Phil

Have a better look at the mount under the gearbox, or the gear linkage

Mine does that!!!!

suspect it might be an engine mount as it only started after the clutch was changed

Hadn't realised there was one UNDER the gearbox... it did sound like it was coming from the bottom of the engine somewhere.

Will have another look.

Thanks guys.

P.s. captain sisko... mine also started after i had the new engine in... so maybe the mount was damaged during the swap and so was yours.

Have just remembered too... i also get a "judder" from the clutch when setting off sometimes.

I reckon it could be a problem with the clutch as this is often an indication of a faulty clutch right?

Phil

I'd think the clunking is probably a mount. Either the under-box one or an engine steady if applicable.

After checking those, if you still get judder, then I'd suspect a clutch issue, probably oil contamination.

you not got stuff in your boot falling over:D

i have exactly the same problem. it seams to be worst than cold???????

i was gunna change the gearbox mount and the rear mount to see if that solved it.

i also have a similar klonke when using full lock, and is worst when pulling out hard at a T junction???????

think that might be the steering rack damaged after my last little off! oops.

Nice to know im not the only one then.

Will investiagte further into the engine mounts and see what i can sort out.

I too have a clonk on full lock... but only when reversing! lol

that sounds like CV joint to me. is it a repetitive noise or a single clonk?

repetitive would indicate a CV.

No its just a single clonk... so probably the steering rack! Like i say doesn't do it while going forwards... jus back!

humm, mine started doing it when reversing and now does it when going foreword to.

I think it is a trait of the felicia , as mine and my sister in laws both do it. Both have power steering

Well mine doesn't have powersteering... but maybe just a trait of the steering rack in them all! Good ol' Felicia's!! hehe

it could be your shock absorber i just replaced mine sounded like i was killing my car every time i drove it :( hopefully after this weekend he will drive like a dream again:D

hope all goes well for you mate :D

track rod ends?

just an idea, any one know that happens then they go?

Red ends - initially vague steering and vibration, eventually excessive tyre wear on shoulders.

  • 1 year later...

I have the same problem as well.

Did anyone figure out what the problem was?

Hi there.

Havn't cured the problem yet no but I am currently experiencing problems described by Ken.

My steering has become very heavy and sometimes a bit vague under certain conditions and also a vibration coming through the wheel while turning even after wheels and tracking being done.

Any more info on the problem Ken. I assume you have made a typo there.

Phil

ok the most common one we used to fix on the felicias was a clunk when letting the clutch out..someone was close earlier int he thread..

remove the 2 13mm bolts that hold the geat linkage to the body (underneath by the stick) remove the crappy rubber mount then wrap lots an lots of pvc tape around the pin that the mount sits on. make it really tight so you have to really force the mount back on, then refit and wonder where the clonk has gone...

the one with a clonk on full lock is usually caused by the subframe not being tight enough
