Engine transplant question

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I recently registered on this forum although I have been visiting it for quite a long while, but if I'm not mistaking, this is my first post.I saw a r32 golf today, crashed, but it only had 12k km on the clock, and the owner wanted to sell the engine(the front end was untouched, but the car smashed into a pole sideways...).So I was thinking..since the Octy II and the Golf have the same platform, the 3.2 V6 out of the r32 should fit just fine in the Octy or am I wrong ?

Of course, besides fitting the engine in there's also the gearbox and since the r32 is 4wd there would be another problem..but, just theoretically, would the 3.2 v6 fit under the hood of an Octy ?

You can probably get the mechanical side sorted without major drama (and it is the myraid fiddly little bits that tend to bring you undone on jobs like this, not the big stuff like gearboxes and engine mounts).

However I think the electronics would be much more difficult to get organised properly unless you have really good in-depth knowledge of the two Mk V platform electrical systems (R32 and Octy). :thumbdwn:

With custom parts anything can fit.

I think your bigest problem would be a 4x4, but then if you got an octy 4x4 to put it in that wouldn't be a problem.

Electrics could be fun mind.

Well I don't think the electronics would be a problem because you can just get the ECU and the other engine/gearbox electronics from the r32(not sure about this though..don't know much about these things yet..)

Anyway...I was just asking to see if it could be possible to do this,my car is not even one year old and I like it a lot :).Anyway...it would be fun to see a skoda octavia with a V-engine in it :P

Hmm....wonder how much a 4.2 tfsi costs...:P

Yes in theory it would fit. Gearbox wouldnt be to much of an issue, just use a vRS box with the belhousing fromt he R32 box and your away. Wiring however will be tricky on a petrol let alone starting with a diesel. £10k at least id say.

Well i don't think it would cost that much...and btw i wasn't even thinking about starting from a diesel :).But what about the gearbox ? The r32 is auto...of course, there's the audi tt which has a manual aswell but i don't think that the gearbox from the TT is a straight fit...

I reckon, starting from a petrol vrs,the expenses would be around 8-10k euro's..depending on how much a 3.2 v6 costs(with the gearbox ofcourse..)
