Wheels and power/torque

Featured Replies

Just a quickie:

I've got the stock 16" alloys on the Fabia vRS and am planning for mods and a remap to about the 175-180bhp area.

Will the standard wheels be able to cope with the increased power and torque?

Or will I be better off upgrading to 17 inchers to provide better grip? (I use Toyo tyres.)

Thanks!

16"s will be fine, just make sure there are some quality tyres on them,

maybe instead of the 205 profile, going to 215????

205 or 215 is the width of the tyre. The profile is the depth of the tyre... 45 on the standard fit 205's... and recommended to be 40 on the 215's to try and keep the circumference of the tyre a close as possible to the original so it doesn't put the speedo reading out too much.

That could probably be worded better!

IMO... The main issue with the standard wheels and tyres is that the tyres are already slightly too wide for the rims. Rims are 6.5J (6.5 inches wide). Ideally, they'd be a 7J, with the same 205 section tyre. On the positive side, at least it helps prevent too much kerbing of the alloys.

Agreed, suited tire to a 6.5J wheel is 195 Iirc
