Rust on rear doors

Featured Replies

My car is eventually booked into the dealer to get the rust on the tailgate sorted out (they think it might take a week - wtf -).

Anyway I was giving it a wash this afternoon, and I noticed some rust on the metal sections that run up between the two pieces of glass on the rear windows (between the moving and the static pieces of glass).

The rust to me looks as if it might be caused by the rubbing of the weather strip on the metalwork. There rust is worst on the offside, but is also evident on the nearside.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? My car is a Y/2001 estate. Should I try and get the deal to fix that as well? I assume they would just replaced the pieces of metal in question, rather than take it out and rust treat it/respray, etc?

Cheers,

Matt

Seen it on old cars years ago, but the whole piece could be taken out and replaced on that car.

Hopefully it's just a case of a new piece on your car.

Therefore presumably worth trying to get it done all in one go under the warranty job.

Yeah go for it - They come with a 10 year anti performation warranty, so definitley get your moneys worth.

Got to be done really under warranty yes:thumbup:

Have now raised it, and sent them some pictures, so hopefully Skoda will cover it under warranty - it is more like a designed fault - as the weather strip rubs over the quarter light divider, so I would imagine it would happen to all cars given enough time.

Apparently the warranty does not cover this type or rust. I assume as it is caused because the paint has rubbed away, rather than the rust "appearing" from behind the paintwork, and that part of the car is classed as trim.

Here is the quote from the dealer:

"I just had a look at the pictures you sent me, but unfortunately this would not be covered as it is not rusting on the paintwork itself but the trim and the warranty only covers the cars paint after the car turns 3 years old."
