205 45 17, 225 45 17 or 205 50 17?

Featured Replies

I've been searching the forums trying to see if anyones fitted 205 45 17s on there car... had no avail.

Currently looking for 2 new tyres, not necessarily fussed if they are not the 205 50 17s as standard on the VRS.

Noticed loads of people have 225 45 17s.. thinking of getting these also, would it be alright putting them on the back with the originals on the front.

Anyone had any problems fitting this size... or used 205 45 17 instead? I was reading another post and someone said they had problems with rubbing, it's not lowered or anything.... hmmm

any help appreciated on this one guys

215/45 zr17 and 225/45 zr17's are fine all round, and cheaper than the original 205/50 zr17's.

Neither of the above tyres should rub, especially as you haven't lowered it.

Don't bother with 205/45 zr17's.

I have just ordered 225/45/17 so i hope they dont rub.I have brought f1 gsd3's hope they are ok.Hopefully better tahn the 205/55/16 i have at the moment

how about 205 50 17's on the front (just got new pirellis) and 225 45 17 on the back? will that work... eekk, looking and bridgestones

Will this be the same for 205/55/16 tyres? Could I order 225/55/16?

Will this give slightly more grip do to being wider?

I think you need 225/50/16's to keep the rolling radius the same.

I think the 16" rim is only 6.5" wide, you may only be able to fit 215 width tyres on them.....

The 17" rims are 7" wide and do take 225's, never heard of anythin wider fitting on them i.e. 235's

I am assuming different wheels too??

You might have a bit of a problem fitting 17 inch tyres on a 16 inch wheel ;)

The air will leak out :D:D

The poster that said that std 16" are 6.5" wide is correct AFAIK.
