Remap

Featured Replies

I am thinking of remapping my Mk1 Vrs do u think I will get 210bhp out of it.Giong to star performance to get it done

I'm pretty sure of 210; with a CAI, a TIP and a decent Zorst, more like 220.

yup 210 should be possible. remeber thats at the fly though not the wheels

Not forgetting that V-Power can help slightly too !

"1.8 T Software upgrade, power increase from 180bhp to 205bhp £449"

Copied from star performance website.

Remember the more power your pushing out of a standard car the more problems you could have, Such as jerkiness/surging.

This looks a decent figure to me.

Thanx for the replies,If I was to get the remap would I start to get problems ? being a novice don`t what any nastie problems

i don't think you will tbh. i havnt had any problems. its more if there is anything slightly going it will speed it up due to more power through everything but it wont break something that it shouldnt.

If I`m going to get 210bhp at the flywheel what will it be at the wheels?

So is the standard car 180 at the wheels or the fly?

At the moment the car is standard so what will it be if I get 210bhp at the fly

Fly.

manufacturers quote fly wheel as its easier for them to measure and looks better!

You will notice a hell of a difference. Mine went up to 216bhp with just a remap, but the torque increase was more noticeable. I went back a few months later and got a sports cat, full exhaust, and CAI. Jim tweaked the map as well. Figures now are a state secret, as I can't be arsed to argue with numpties who seem to think that Stars dyno figures are rigged, but suffice to say, there is (by **** dyno) a very noticeable improvement from the FIRST remap.

Comparing now to original is night from day :thumbup::thumbup:

i had mine mapped by star performance and due to a panel filter and always using v-power/ultimate etc got 207bhp.

The printout i got read as follows

engine output 212bhp

normal power 207bhp

wheel output 155bhp

torque 232 lbf

i did get a few problems afterwards, quite serious hesitation solved by an ECS tuning race N75 valve and the map accelerated the demise of my coil packs which i had to have all of them replaced but afterwards all was well.

Hope this helps.

Funny set of figures,155bhp@the wheels would work out as 183bhp@the flywheel.

hi

i had a free 6 hour remap an had 210bhp car felt amazin, normally the car doesnt feel like its got a turbo, but with map theres a hell of a difference,

also i had 210 at the flywheel and im sure when i was lookin at figures on dyno i had 204 @wheels i also asked the tech an he said thats right some dyno's have more drag so looks like theres less?

also clutch has recently gone, not sure if extra power fried it or old age

never gave at the flywheel figures but thats the figures produced once the car had been mapped and put on the rolling road

Have a look around, quite a few places in Fife do maps, a lot of VAG guys use Dastek in Dalgety Bay, others use Falkland Performance. Most use Star.

On UKMKIV's Chipped UK comes out well for 1.8t remaps at a very good price. But you have to run through to Prestwick.

Also try Diamond Tints ( yes they do maps) they use the same German files that Angel tuning use for a little less money.

Be warned it will show weakness in other areas of the car. Like others I've had a couple of coil pack failures ( mine is not the powerful 1.8t like Matchmakers though :()

Mine is a slow, low powered 1.8t, Craig :(:(

Must be Octys up here with more power than mine :o:O

On the "so and so quote optomistic figures" point, it's generally well known and accepted that some sets of rollers give higher wheels figures than others do. Correcting a wheels figure back to a flywheel one is a bit of a black art, and requires knowing the actual rolling radius of the tyres, the actual overall gear ratio used for the power run, and then applying a fudge factor for drive-train losses.
