wheel bearing under warranty

Featured Replies

HI

Just having me third wheel bearing going (one rear two fronts), but the dealer is saying that there aren't any around so has it on back order.

Now, as my warranty runs out at end of april, will this still be done under it if the part comes in after then, as the fault is reported during warranty period? Not my fault they cant get parts....

he went all vague and said he'd get back to me, but no news!

Also, is this common, because it's only done 25k?

chuggs,

05 1.9tdi estate, 25k, 17" wheels, elegant in black......

Very common and if reported within the warranty period should be covered in the warranty. May be worth a call to Skoda Customer Services just to log the fault prior to warranty expiring. This would at least give you peace of mind re a claim.

Yes it will, fault has been reg'd before the warranty run out. Not your fault they cant supply the parts in time.

phew!

thanks for the advice guys

had one done a couple of weeks ago- at 47k mls. was told that bearings were on back order and it would be about 3 weeks - When I pointed out that I did about 800 mls a week and demanded a courtesy car in the meantime, the dealer miraculously managed to "source" a bearing in 2 days!

Hi

Interesting to know, which Octys are suffering this bearing problem ?also why ?? Thought it was more of a older car ( say 10yr or more year problem ) !!!

hi there,

from the board, it seems to be all octys II.....

there are at least 3 on the same car as mine (1.9tdi 05 estate) 17" wheels.

this is my third!

one more for luck.....

one of my fronts went at 15,000 miles. seems to be a common problem as it occurs on the golfs as well which use the same part (i think)

Hi

Well we have 15" wheels, done 15000km in 4months, already had first service, and our B/ C roads are potholed like hell. However 80% of that 15k was done on motorways. We also use a company Tor with 50k on it but no bearings touched as yet anyway.

guess what...

no 4 just started knocking! given the 6 week wait for part, this could be a hairy time on the M4 every day!

I am thinking I have a wheel bearing on the way out. A nice rumbling noise from the front drivers wheel. It's a TDi vRS with 25000 miles on the clock. Not something I'd have expected to go!

Is this a common problem, I have a slight grunbing noise from o/s/f & some vibration through the pedals, but it very slight, would like to take to the dealer, but my rear tyres have un even wear, hopefully now sorted, but the noise from the rear tyres, masks the suspect wheel bearing noise.

If this is a common regular occurrence Skoda or VW should change them even out of warranty.

I have just noticed a slight clicking when turning right, but its not there all the time, is similar to a Harvey splicer on the way out on the drive shaft

How much is it for new bearings???? and how much should it cost to change them when out of warranty, and does the problem apply to all MK2s or just the one with the larger wheels, mine has the 15inch ones 1.9tdi 105bhp estate

I had to have one on the front at 10k miles on my PD105 on 16"s. 61k now with no further problems.

Can hear a humming from the rear that 'seems' to be getting louder, pitch changes in line with acc/deceleration. bearing on way out? What should I say to the stealers to get it replaced if so, how do I get passed the 'nope can't hear anything'?

Check your tyres first. My OEM conti's got fairly low and I thought it was a wheel bearing issue. New tyres - noise went away. Octavia II's love to transmit tyre noise to the cabin

Theres a savage noise of mine at the minute, bascially due to over inflated tyres wearing the centre of tyres.
