vRS oil Mobile 1 ESP?

Featured Replies

My garage (Newbury) indicated to me at last service that they used Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W/30 as the engine oil. I asked as I wanted to top up with the same stuff.

Having looked around I'm a bit concerned as everyone else seems to use Shell Helix VX (it even recommends it under the bonnet).

What oils do you guys use? I've done a quick look around on here, and no one else seems to use Mobil 1.

Mine's the 2ltr TFSI vRS.

As long as you get the righ grade of oil that is the important thing - 5W 30W is fine for the 2.0T.

I'm using Castrol Edge which is what VW recommends.

I just put a drop of Mobil 1 ESP 507.00 in SWMBO's vRS TDI which is fine. I only used it as the Castrol Edge was out of stock.

I use the castrol edge too.

Seems fine.

Cheers guys, well sounds like I'm not going to blow up bluey :)

While I remember, is it recommended to check oil level with the engine still warm?

I'd probably prefer the Mobil 1 to be honest.

:)

No particular recommendation warm or cold other than IIRC about 15 mins after the engine was switched off (if warm) to allow the oil to drain back into he sump. Oh! make sure you are on level ground!

As long as you use VAG 507.00 compliant oil you'll be Ok but for personal preference I always like to 'top up' with the same oil as used at service; so I'd suggest you stick to the Mobil 1; although I've been using the Shell Helix VX ('cos that's what my dealer has in stock).
