Cannot decide which one - help!

Featured Replies

Ok finally got a money for car out of the company, had to fight hard to get an allowance rather than a car, could have only had Passat or Jetta s which would have been bit too mundane for my liking.

Now I have to decide on a car. Mk II VRS for sure, but petrol or diesel? Having worked out fuel savings and tax savings Derv wins the vote, however looking at the used market, the derv is noticably more expensive than petrol. I'd have to have the car for almost 2 years before the savings on the derv pay for themselves.

Will have about £12.5k to spend but can always chop in the Mk1 VRS to bump that up a bit.

Obviously want 18' s and jumbo pack if poss, anyone seen any worth while deals? Fingers crossed start looking in next two weeks.

Thanks in advance

You need to drive them both to decide which one YOU like best. Try to drive both on roads similar to those where you drive most of the time, and driving both in the same weather conditions will also help.

The TDI has great mid-range grunt but runs out of revs fairly early, so needs a more considered style of driving. The petrol is smoother and revs out better, but uses a bit more fuel. I prefer the petrol engine, but you need to drive them both and choose the one that best suits you.

But the diesel will still be worth more in 2 years time, so if you do a few miles its a no brainer?

I have just got a Tdi estate with 34k miles for 12k. on a 56 plate. That was a good deal though and the next cheapest was 14k+. Petrols are quite a bit cheaper, and I was tempted, but prefer diesel power.

Where in the UK are you?

Have you looked on drive the deal?

Have you spoken to ants on here or other dealers who might be able to give you a good and fair price?

Live in Hampshire. DTD has one, haven't asked any dealers so far. Might try a dealer as I hate selling cars, I still have a T5 that I have had off the road for 3 years now and still haven't done anything with, trading in is a much easier option.
