Hey guys, great site.

I'm living in Ireland and I am hoping to import a Vrs from the UK in the coming weeks. I have a maximum budget of £8000 to spend on the car. I am looking for some recommendations from the Skoda community on Vrs models that are advertised online that might suit me, the closer to Holyhead the better. I'd prefer not to buy one with more than 45000 miles and unmodified if at all possible.

I was considering this particular car Autotrader - SKODA Octavia 1.8T RS

Do you think this car look ok, trustworthy dealer etc?

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the 1.8T RS and the 1.8 VRS models, they look identical and google hasn't been very informative.

What should I look out for when buying a VRS?

How costly is a Vrs to run, service etc?

Thanks for any replies. I look forward to joining the community

Tidy VRS by the looks of it, I'd opt for a low mileage one as well.. Although if you were looking at 04 with similar mileage I think you could probably save over a grand.

Few people have Wheel bearings going and stuff like that...coil packs are common as well.

If you view one then don't be put off funny noises when you first start it (e.g. tappety noise before the oil works its way up).

Read the frequently asked questions section in the octavia 1 forum... it's got all the common questions etc, also have a quick flick through the forums because there are quite a few posts like yours.

there is no difference between VRS or RS... as far as I can gather they are called RS everywhere but the UK and even in the UK there are doubts that the V is meant to be in the name... other posts on the forum seem to guess that they added the V to appear different from fords "RS" range. They'll both be the same.

Running... I get about 33-34MPG when driving normally (not booting it)..

When in a brisk mood, 28 MPG... when flooring it probably 22MPG. On a long journey I've had it up to 38MPG average.

Servicing -had full service +waterpump (plastic and prone to failing) campbelt and rear pads done all at once at local garage for £630 - not bad.

Check tyres they cost a fortune... though many people opt for 225 45 17 on here because they are wider and slightly cheaper.

I bought mine last year for 5650 and it had 35k on the clock 03 model... just to give you some sort of idea what you could get for your money..

Absolutly nothing except the publicity material.

It's all down to Ford UK throwing a wobbler about Skoda using the rs name (I guess it was down to the old reputation of skoda over here devaluing the name of their cars) so Skoda just added the v as it's in skoda motorsport badge and did not cost them anything extra to do.

Early uk examples were known as RS, later examples (after the Ford strop) were vRS
