Plasma or LCD TV.

Featured Replies

I'm probably out of date on them then - as I said, we don't use 'em for the installs I design and I've not seen one in person for a bit.

No it isn't. It comes from the corporate world where you might have the same image up on screen for hours or days at a time, and in that instance you will[/i'] get burn in, even on current generation screens. Less relevant in a domestic situation, but it certainly isn't "twaddle".

There is no recharging process. There is no gas that needs to be pumped back into the display. There is no way to

I've got a DLP tv and IMHO its better than LCD/Plasma/normal rear projection.

Its basically the best of all worlds.

The only part that ever needs replacing is the bulb and they last a good few years and only cost a couple of hundred quid when they eventually go.

The extended warranty on them is less than half the price you pay with LCD or Plasma tv's too!

This is the one i've got but there are a few makes/models out now.

Its HD ready and has more conectors on the back than anyone would ever need !

You can get them in the bigger comet/currys stores now too

45inch -

i paid less than that for 5 years unlimited coverage including accidents on my plasma :)

no telly could ever look as cool as an LCD or Plasma up on the wall either :P

They're not that much different to the look of a plasma to be honest...

The real difference is when you turn it on ;)

The colours are much much brighter than any plasma

I made them put it next to the top of the range pioneer HD plasma and it looked miles better :D

I think it was a DLP rear proj TV I saw in Currys. It was described as an LCD rear proj TV but it performed miles better than any rear proj i'd ever seen before.

Re-charging plasmas - complete myth, there is no way to do this.

Burn-in - yes on plasmas, but not from domestic use, i.e. we have plasma's at work showing sky news 24/7 so after literally several months of constant use the screen will have been damaged by the sky logo.

Life issues - IIRC plasma is about 20,000 hours and up, LCD is 50,000, either is plenty long enough for domestic use IMO.

I'm sticking with CRT until LCD improves and becomes cheaper, or until the next new thing comes out :D:thumbup:

Looks like I was taken in on the recharging thing - must have been someone doing a prank flyer. Or maybe I dreamt it all...

i dream lots of things, very few come to life :(

I'm quite glad that one about being chased by a flying brass lion didn't come true.

I agree. With the trend towards plasma and LCD, CRT tv's are crashing in price and there are some fantastic CRT TV's out there. I love grundig but I think they have gone bust now. When I go to replace my 28" Widescreen my 1st choice for a 32" will be Panasonic, Philips or Sony.

My last telly was an enormous great Grundig - 34", curved screen. Absolute monster - if anyone wants it it'd be

I'm sure a student would bite yer hand off and win the money back betting his mates he can get a 34" tv for 50 notes but i'll stick with what I have for now. Cheers

Bought a Panasonic Viera Plasma (42") a few months ago (

I saw one of those DLP rear projection screens today - I was quite surprised. They're only about 5-6" deep at a guess. Viewing angle was good too, but the colour balance on this one was awful - really saturated blues. I'm assuming that that's a one-off this-unit problem though. I think it was a 46" for about
