Part 2 Mountains snow,beach in 1 day,

After a infusion of caffeine at the lodge keepers hut, we said our goodbyes and headed for the coast another 25 km westwards. We were going to stop on the way and buy some of the finest honey found in Croatia, and that was to be found in a small village called Ledenik, where even the beekeeper drove a Lada Niva 4x4. This part of the Velebit area is again very prone to the Bura winds, and is strewn with rocks and crags. As you drive along the twisting main road, the Adriatic islands can clearly be seen, even with the winds chopping up the sea around them. Village found, honey onboard, and having stopped in a lay-by to change out of our boots, we nearly lost the doors, because of the high winds. These winds would be staying with us all day until we returned inland behind this mountain range towards Zagreb. Twisting our way round bend after bend you could possibly forget which way was north, but you could almost smell the sea. We parked on the seafront, within a hour of leaving the lodge, stretched our legs, but as the quaysides were too steep for our dog to swim, we were soon driving again this time S/E towards Zadar. It was on this coastal section that we found a very rough stony section of beach that Medo our dog got his swim. The motorway section on Velebit to and from the coast had been closed to traffic all day because of the winds, so we had to return using the old road close to Zadar, then rejoin motorway when we could. Even with that hiccup we arrived home at around 20.30 that evening having experienced Mountains snow, beach in 1 day.

eee i'd have a cover on that back bumper to stop the dog's paws scratching it personally - interesting pics though.
