Replace Tyres or Buy new Alloys?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I will soon be needing a new front tyre, as I like to change them in pairs I will end up buying two.

Normally when I need tyres I use this as an excuse to sell the alloys and buy new ones with new tyres.

Now, do I sell my Fabia VRS alloys and buy some new alloys? If so what alloys do you recomend for a Fabia VRS that has not been lowerd?

Or, do I just keep the alloys and change the front tyres? If so what tyres would you recomend?

Thanks

This is purely my own view, but:

1. I think the stock vRS alloys look as good as any aftermarket ones that anyone's put on

2. I've heard some pretty discouraging remarks about the quality of 'replica' alloys (e.g. RS4)

3. All the alloys I've seen with tyres ready-fitted have had some cheapo-brand rubber on them. You don't get owt for nowt, and if decent tyres for the vRS are going to set you back at least £70-80 a corner, then I wouldn't want to pay less than £600-700 for a complete set of wheels - pretty expensive if "it's only an excuse"...

But it's up to you! :)

If you do go for new alloys make sure theyre a decent make (Oz, BBS, etc) or OEM upgrades.

Agree. Some aftermarket wheels aren't as strong as oem.

personally i would go for some spiders still love the look of them on a fabia vrs :D or if not maybe some new rubber for the standard alloys and think of a refurb and spray job to them to give them a new look

Steer clear of replicas, If the cost of change for new alloys is only 100 more than 2 new tyres then new alloys every time!

VRS wheels sell quite well. There is a huge range of alloys out there. Definately stick to good brands MOMO, OZ etc, i bought dezent wheels and they were like butter, had to replace them after 6 months!!!!

You definately get what you pay for...

I have had a look on Black Circles at tyres, can anyone remind me what come as standard on the car from factory? (I'm at work so can't check) I think the factory ones are noisy so may change.

Also anyone heard of Nexus? They seem to get a good review:

Buy Tyres Online

if going for 17's the ideal tire on the fabia is 215/40/17. Looks way better than 205/40/17 and offer more alloy protection

Think I'll end up sticking with the VRS alloys and just changing the tyres, just need to find some, anyone heard of the Nexus ones above?

The Nexen's do seem to have a few impressed owners, some even buying them a second time.

They are not going to be a high performance tyre, but at over £20 a tyre cheaper than the rest, worth a try?

Just stuck some Uniroyal Rainsports on mines, seem pretty hot!

there are quite a few sets of 17" spider alloys on ebay at the moment.
