Replacement Octy gearbox

Featured Replies

My 1999 GLXi Octy (70k miles) fell victim to the 'dodgy rivet' problem at the diff, resulting in a mangled gearbox casing. Thankfully the 'box was repaired, and a new clutch put in. A year later and problems are arising again.....

The 'box code is DUU (aarrgghh!!). Is there a newer/more reliable alternative that will fit, which I might find at a scrappers? The car's pretty fine otherwise, and I'm loathe to get rid of it as it accomodates our 2 wee lads and their assorted paraphernalia with ease.

Cheers

I had exactly the same problem with my mk4 golf 1.6se, guessing the share the same gearbox, i had mine sent off and hade the diff bolted togeather instead of the riviots, and the casing was repaird, cost about £600, common problem on the vw/audi boxes apparently.

Yeah- very annoying problem, and expensive to sort out. The bolts seem to do the job. I'm worried now that the gears are banjaxed, thus a new gearbox.

Cheers!

Update- Sticking in 5th caused by broken selector.
