New shape polo gti... how rubbish?!

Featured Replies

Was quite dissapointed really, my previous car was the 6n2 gti and was a brilliant little thing. Not massively fast but would handle like it was on rails and brake like no other car i ve driven... it did have G60 brakes and eibach springs so yea it wasnt standard.

Now my fabia handles like its on rails... made of jelly and brakes like its made of blamonge, yet in a little tussle with the new shape polo gti it suprised even myself. Poor little polo couldnt keep up.

maybe it was down to the fact the fabia was at its strongest... between 40mph - 60ishmph through long corners?!

ah well... just my little bit for the day lol.gif

I took a test drive in new 07 Plate Polo GTi, prior to me getting my Furby. Aside from the fact the VW dealer was rude, would not negoitate at all, and was very unhelpful - I found the car to be gutless and well, well over priced! It was crap!

If they had made a Polo GT TDi in the newest shape and had priced it 3K cheaper then I'd definitly have been interested - but then again that would have made it a Furby vRS, so I guess its for a different market.

It's a shame, as I like Polos, and would have had a GT like a shot, but compared to the Fabia, it was very expensive, for essentially the same car, only better looking imo.

you recon? the only difference was a gt badge on the front tho...to a normall polo. i prefer the Dune!

Sadly they never made a GT in the newest shape. The closest they do is a Polo Sport, which has the PD100 engine. Or 1.6 105BHP Petrol. The GT in the older shape never caught on and was only made on a short production run. I guess because of the price and it could not compete with the Fabia and Ibiza.

I was in a VW dealership not too long ago and the salesman was really quite frank with me on the Polo Gti. He said it's really not worth the cash, and that the Golf GT (1.4 TFSI?) was far better value, not to mention quicker.

This might sound rich coming from someone who can afford neither, but is the Polo Gti just a watered down wannabe Golf Gti?

The older shape Polo GT Tdi does sound like it was a much tidier machine the the current Gti.

I'll stop thinking out loud now. :o
