New to a Fabia...abs pump

Featured Replies

hi all,

looking at purchasing a 1.4 comfort with air con and was wandering if anyone had any information on them firstly. Good car to buy? any decent extras or better models to look for...

found one on piston heads looking good for under £1k but the owner says it has an abs pump fault and it has been to skoda and they want £900 to fix a new pump on.

Are they prone for abs pumps, are they cheaper at an independant do we think? (Midland VW Professional VAG Enthusiasts! for me)

I have searched but only find a few problems to do with the pump?

would it be a safe buy or going to land me in a heap of trouble.

i would have the ability to vag.com it when i went to see it but the owner seem honest and telling me the right info.

what do we think? any tips etc?

Rich

My wife has a 1.4 Comfort with air con (which wasn't actually working when she got it, but was cheap enough to fix!) Hers doesn't have ABS, though, so can't comment on the cost of replacing the pump...

SWMBO's 51-plate is worth about 2.3k according to AT, which makes a grand sound cheap. But then if you've got the option of VAG-COMing it and are happy to take a potential hit on the pump, it may just turn out to be a bargain!

hmmm interesting...

well abs pump if anyone else has any ideas.....

the car is extremely cheap checking other prices. its a 2001 model in goldy colour looks really clean and nice.

just awaiting some more info from the seller but its a good 150miles from me as well.

just worried its cheap coz the abs pump leads on to other problems (reading on here maybe ECU?!)

Cheers for the input :)

I have a 1400 2001 16 v Comfort and its been a brilliant little car except for C02 emission probs at the MOT last week which cost in the region of £217 to fix. (The air con is better in it than my OH's BMW!)

But personally - if you arent a mechanic - why buy a car you already have doubts about and which will need £1k worth of work before you even get to drive it? For a couple of thousand more you could probably get a really decent one from a main dealer with a warranty thrown in? Whilst the person selling it sounds very genuine, you will have no come back if you have the pump repaired and then find more problems.

If in doubt, keep out. The main agents will have lots of part exchanges in at the moment, ring your local ones to see what deals they can offer on a similar car.

My vRS had a faulty ABS pump from new, was fixed under warranty.
