Where can I get one of these remarkably cheap casings, so I can tell the wife to stock up, the next time she bumps the car.......

You can get them from a Skoda dealer.

My tame painter has had a look and he can plastic weld it.

He already has paint, so a cheap job.

Sorted.

just an idea for you i had to get a whole new mirror for the o/s and it was just under £80 trade price not a bad price i didnt think.
