wiper problem and door electrics

Featured Replies

I recently bought a 2001 (51) Octavia Tdi 90bhp and it has a couple of faults I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on:

Firstly the windscreen wiper, it works perfectly in all positions except the off position! In the off position it keeps going at a slow continuos speed. Could it be a fault with the stalk, or is it that they are not stopping in the rest position or something like that?

Also the near side rear door electrics don't function at all. I've read things about corrosion in connectors on door electronic control boxes?

Any ideas will be appreciated!!

No nearside door electrics sounds like like a lack of an earth... do you have electric mirrors, heated mirrors, central locking, heated windows?

Wipers. If you have it set at slow speed and set the variable timer, do they park properly between wipes? Should be 4 switch positions: Off - variable - single speed cont - double speed cont.

It's a rear window so it is just missing the central locking and electric window functions, I'll take the door card off at the weekend and see if any power is getting to it....

On a slow speed variable wipe they park ok, a little high if anything. I have a feeling theat them parking a bit high in the off mode is triggering them to wipe again for some reason?!

Thanks for the help.

The wiper problem may be due to the mechanism partially siezing - a fairly common fault on MK4 Golf based cars. I had something similiar, took the wiper unit out of the car, cleaned and greased and all ok now. Dealer wanted £100+ for the parts and said it was none strippable - !!, but watch out for the circlips on the wiper arm drive spindles in case they fly off. A fiddly job but worth doing yourself.
