Hi - the cd-changer in my Oct Elegance has packed up - I get the message "surface" every time it attempts to play a cd. I've cleaned the cds and used a cd lens cleaner in the magazine - all to no avail.

I'm reluctant to put the car in to get it sorted - probably cheaper to get a new unit but . . . . has anyone pulled one of these apart - I would guess that the laser lens has become fouled or soiled and needs cleaning properly - is this something I could do with some time and patience . . . anyone else tried it or do I just leave it until I eventually p/x the car for a 2.0tdi L &k with DSG:)

i had mine apart once, pretty easy to do, unbolt it from the car, and remove the front fascia and then the top panel, and all the interior components are exposed.
